Connect them up via an ethernet cable. :thumbsup: Can buy these at PC World, Poundland etc. :thumbsup:

Crossover ethernet cable is the easiest way (these are different to standard ethernet cables as they are for computer-computer wiring as opposed to computer-router wiring). Something like this is ideal.

If the files are small you can always buy a USB Memory Stick & transfer them via that.

purchased the crossover ethernet to connect laptop and pc........


but keep getting error- limited or no connectivity?

anyone have a step by step guide on how to transfer files from pc to laptop both on xp pro and have lan cards

I had that before but it was down to the firewalls, best to disable them temporarily

i use the infarred port its take 4 days for 20mb so very fast

nope no communication between pc and laptop!

tried disabling firewalls still no joy.

i dont want to share internet just want to transfer files.

been using the setup new home network wizard in xp pro. i.e. creating a work group name etc

but dont know where i am going wrong?

I would of it thought it was a plug & play, no messing with settings? Look in the My Network Places, and are there any folders, i.e. your laptop name?

manually set the ip addresses and make sure they're on the same subnet.
eg 192.168.1.x

then try pinging one machine from the other to make sure you have connectivity.
