Connecting old laptop drive to new computer
My old laptop broke but the sata hard drive is fine. I'd like to transfer my data from the old drive onto my new laptop.
Could anyone tell me what the easiest/cheapest way to do this would be. I've been looking at hard drive enclosures on ebay but most of them only support drives up to 500gb and my drive is 640gb.

Yes, it should work without any problems - just bear in mind that when you connect the external HDD to your computer you'll probably need to assign it a different drive letter/s, dependent upon how many partitions were set-up on your faulty computer. :D
BTW I think there was even a more cheaper enclosure available here on HUKD - I'm sure it was posted this week, as the deal thread pointed to an enclosure to Amazon UK but another member posted a link to one via eBay UK. :D

I don't recommend that case, purchased one last year and it's problematic.
It uses full size connections and doesn't correctly meet the USB specification.
The drive is detected and will operate for a while but disconnects at random intervals when reading or writing. Tried it on both my PC and Mac, both have the same problem.
The only other possibility is that it cannot handle a 2.5" 7200rpm drive.
Drive works fine when connected to my machines via Sata.
