Who to contact if a toy isn't safe??

Does anyone know the right place to complain about a toy that I don't think is safe? I've contacted the company that sell it, but they've just fobbed me off saying it is safe.

Any help greatly appreciated...

It's disney's new minnie mouse playfood. The pack that comes with the eggs. On the box it shows it comes with an egg carton for the eggs, but when you open the pack, its just clear plastic packaging they are sitting in. Disney have said that all packaging has been tested to ensure it can pass through a childs hands without injury, and that the see through egg carton is part of the toy, not plastic packaging. But i've got it here in front of me, and it's plastic packaging. I'm not letting my kids play with it, but want to ensure no one elses kids have probs with it.

Was it purchased and intended for use in this country? If so then it would have been approved and undergone safety tests.

If it is a foreign toy that has been brought into this country then the British safety board have no say on it's safety.

yes bought and intended for UK. I think they've put it in as plastic packaging though, and put a picture of egg carton on the outside of the box for show. But when you buy the product you expect to get the egg carton too, not plastic packaging. Who gives their kids plastic packaging to play with??

As someone who has worked for a Disney manufacturer before.. I can almost guarantee that the Disney License would not allow any factory in China to produce goods for them that have not passed an SGS audit and have failed EN71 testing parts 1 2, & 3 as well as the additional Toy Safety Directive.

Box displays are often an artistic representation of the contents............the only thing you can do if not satisfied is ask for a refund.

Nice find. :)

OP, it even states plastic packaging so you are to blame really for not reading the description.

i dont think it is clear on the description that the egg box is packaging?
states size of packaging but isnt that overall size?
pic is misleading i would say, should say egg carton is packaging if it is.

Without seeing the front of the box (where you say it shows a carton), its a bit difficult to tell.

Im assuming with these: "four yoghurt pots that separate from a plastic holder" - the plastic holder is a proper holder intended for playing with, thicker, durable plastic etc.. Where as the clear plastic egg packaging seems just that, packaging.. something to hold the 4 eggs and keep them together/stop you losing the top or bottom?

bought it instore and the picture on the box differs from the one on the web link posted above.I think they've made a mistake on the actual box it comes in, by showing that the eggs should be in a toy egg carton. The clear one on the picture on the link is flimsy plastic packaging, i have it here.

My point isnt that I want a refund, my point is that disney shouldn't be telling kids to play with plastic packaging.

Syzable - most toys come in plastic packaging, I dont have to read that on a website to find that out... but all toys say to dispose of plastic packaging before giving to a child.

Thanks Nikki999... you've got my point exactly! :o) Spot on with the yoghurt description as well :o)

Man, this thread just made me think id hate to be a kid again these days. Heath and safety gone mad! Parents nowadays seem to be wrapping their kids in cotton wool. I loved my childhood including the bumps cuts and scrapes along the way.

Can you show us a pic of the box? Not that I don't believe you, Im just nosy!

I think ringing and emailing is pointless tbh, I think more people have success with writing letters and sending them to H.O. Otherwise you end up wasting your time on the phone with people who don't have a clue.. nor care. The letter will carry more weight anyway.
Ive only ever complained once, normally I don't bother (maybe I should do it more often!? lol). I bought a hot water bottle from Asda and it split down one of the seams, it basically scolded my leg so I wrote a letter, prior to that I gave them a ring but they couldn't give a monkeys (mind you, asda C.S is dire anyway).

In the meantime just take it back (take some piccies though if you're going through with a complaint), or bin the egg thing and put the eggs in proper egg box.
