Contents cover will usually cover you for accidental damage, theft (with limitations on value), damage through fire/flooding.

However most policies will not cover faults or general wear and tear.

Home emergency can cover all sorts of things depending on what you buy. Often it's 24 hour emergency plumbers, locks, gas technicians etc But sometimes it also covers hotel costs in case of fire/flood etc

Contents polcies are very varied so it's worth spending a few hours poring over the websites for a few big companies and finding out what is / isn't covered

can i ask why you have never had contents insurance?
Accidental damage is a must by the way and shop around you can get some great deals:)

Yeah, does seem a bit mad not getting contents cover. For about £150 a year you can cover a hell of a lot!

dont forget to use a cashback site if possible, last june i did both my contents and building through two different companies and used a cashback site, after cashback had been paid i ended up paying about £20 on each for a years cover

Worth every penny because if you get robbed tomorrow and only have buildings cover, none of the stolen stuff is covered.

when i did mine, i used compare.com or somewhere like that, but put in a different email address and got the quote for date of next day, then cleared all cookies left it a few days and then went through the cashback site, both validated and paid out

Thanks for your replies, anyone know anything about emergency home cover? Is it worth taking out? about £60 more a year for this

home emergency cover is usually good, it can cover things like your boiler breaking down, but it just depends on the company.
contents cover is a must i would say, think about what you would lose in a fire etc

forget accidental cover as this can double the premium.
