Hi guys :)
Basically I am in the process of having a contract of having an orange mobile phone contract transfered into my name.. ( I was the 3rd party)
Now I'm actually thinking of cancelling this contract, and just going out and getting a new contract next Thursday when the iPhone comes out..
What I'm thinking is.. Because I had a credit check against my name to do with transfering the contract to me, will this effect my chances of taking out a new contract..
The guy on the phone didn't seem to think so..
But, I've turned 18 about 3 months ago.. I have had a part time job for just over a year, and also I just applied for a credit card about three weeks ago ( and recieved it in the post) but I've never even used it, and don't plan on doing so ( it was just so I can book into a hotel in NY)

Can anyone help me out :) ?
Thanks
Jack

if your new contract will be with orange you will effectively have two contracts for a time and orange were always difficult-if another network you should be fine.

Can't imagine your credit score being so great if you have only turned 18.
Although considering they gave you a credit card (which would be subject to a credit check) you may be okay.

Phone companies frequently try to find ways around things to make the sale..

Well although technically at the moment, the contract is still showing up as in my mum's name.. ( till July 3rd billing date)

Hmm I hope so!

Edit ** Would it be better if I cancelled the transfer of the contract into my name **

YOu should be ok although more than 2 credit checks in one month will affect your credit score, you say you have recently applied for a credit card and already one mobile phone contract? when you apply for the next contract i would leave it llike that for a while.

MSE forums are normally good for these questions ;)
I doubt anyone can give you a certain answer though!

Here's what's happened ( long story :p)
Basically :
1) I need a credit card when I go to New York next month so I can stay in the hotel..
2) the plan was that I would upgrade to the new iPhone next week after an orange CS representative told me the change to my name would be instant and wouldnt need a credit check.. I said Ok go ahead, she went through it all and said oh sorry we need to do a credit check ( i passed) and then she said oh sorry actually it won't go into effect until the 10th of July.. so there went my plans of upgrading!!

I think you'll be ok to get new contract but how long do you have left on the orange one? If you have completed the amount of months on the old contract you'll still need to write to them to cancel.

Cheers for the help guys, it's all sounding quite good from the replies on here and other forums..
I guess all I can do now, is wait, and hope :p !
If I get rejected, it won't be the worst thing in the world, because its not like I'm going out of my way.. I'll be travelling down that way anyway :)

i think as its orange you will struggle with the contract being transfered...but if it fails you can ask your mum again? orange are so fussy...why dont you call them directly and ask them would it be ok in theory for you to add another?
in my experience they dont like people to cancel and reconnect a new so maybe best to cancel after the new?
