Is it possible for me to do this? Because my TV only has an optical output and my amplifier doesn't have an optical input!

And I can't afford a new amplifier :(

any help will me much appreciated, thanks.

Sorry, wrong adapter. This only converts from one digital signal type to another, not to an analogue one.

Converts the optical digital output from a Toslink to an electrical S/PDIF coaxial signal.
This £40 box will do it.

Personally I suggest walking past your local Richer Sounds to buy a new amp - even if it is only a cheap one. Alternatively why not use the headphone socket at the front/side of the TV to connect it to the old amp, until you can afford a nice new one.

thanks for the help, yeh that price seems a bit steep just to convert it, i'll look for a cheap amp :)
