Total recorder is good. It works by recording the sound whilst you play the film, so it listens in the background. I've used it before and found it was v.good. Can use it for other things as well such as making a mp3 out of a youtube video. Only drawback is though that you have to have the film or whatever you want running.

But would it convert the audio codec in the avi file?

As I need to convert the audio to MP3 so it plays..?

Super should help.

Or try pocketdivxencoder that will also let you encode the video to your native screen ratio.

Make sure you have spybot or malwarebytes antimalware installed before just deciding to install software like this as there are lots of audio programs that promise much but install rootkits and malware. It's good to practice this approach with all software of this nature

Use Avidemux. Just load your file, leave video on copy, change audio to MP3, leave format to AVI and press save - Bobs your uncle
