Im really having some problems doing this,iv done everything right what people have told me on here.

First i convert the files with ConvertXtoDVD,and then it prompts me to insert a blank disc in the selected drive, but there isnt a drive high lighted on the drop down menu. So when i insert a disc nothing happens, its as if it doesnt even register it and it doesnt let me go to the next step.so i just press cancel.

So i have my converted files in my documents, so i open up nero start smart and then go to nero burning rom, choose dvd video, then on the ISO tab i get stuck, what settings should i choose for

file sytems:
File name lenght(ISO):
Character Set(ISO):

Then i can choose to check the boxes under the RELAX RESTRICTIONS,which should i check

then when i press that,i have to drag the files into the video_TS folder, which files do i choose, theres 3 different types

BACKUP FILE OF THE IFO (BUP) (34KB)
DVD MOVIE INFO (IFO) (34KB)
DVD MOVIE (VOB) (302,268KB)

There seems to be that group of 3 for every episode,do i have to drag all of them in order for the dvd disc to be played on a normal dvd player,or do i just select the dvd movie

youre making it seem 300x more complicated than it is!

burn in any package that can do DVD VIDEO disc ie video_ts and audio_ts folder

you only fill the video_ts folder. put ALL the output files from convertxtodvd into the video_ts and click burn. dont change any of the iso settings etc!!

also if theres no drive showing in convertxtodvd it sounds like you would have to update the driver for your IDE interface! but dont do that. just use nero instead.

do you recommend a package to use,is a package .... nero recode, nero burning rom

it works when i choose nero recode and then onto compile a dvd,but when i put the disc in my dvd player, the screen size is a square without about 4 inches incline from the top and bottom

not recode. just a burning package. nero burning rom. i use k3b as im on linux at the mo but copytodvd is good too. they all do the trick though

iv just burned a few discs, but when i play them on a dvd player, the screen size is just a square with about 2" space from top to bottom. Is there a a option what im missing that chooses how i want it to appear.

I use WinAVI convertor as i have simply found it the easiest to use. You set the size of DVD you require and hit convert. It creates a folder with Audio_ts and video_ts files. Simply drop these into Nero Burning Rom and hey presto, a DVD from divx in approx 45 mins to an hour depending on processing speed of your PC.
#10
yeah winAVI has always been reliable for me. excellent proggy. ConvertXtoDVD, if used properly, is even simpler to use though
#11
thats the steps i followed, but what im saying is that when i finished the burn,i then see what it looks like in my dvd player, and the screen is square not widescreen, and theres about a 2" space at the top and bottom of the screen. if i use win avi.and i convert multiple episodes of a tv show, will it all run through, with no breaks.

thanks for everyones help,it must be frustrating trying to teach something to me lol

Afternoon Jim,

WinAVI is much better or you could use DVD Santa.
#13
you get the black lines at the top and bottom when its set to convert in 16:9, if you dont want them, select remove letterbox or select 4:3.

WinAVI can convert multiple episodes too, you can either batch convert or just make sure the files you want to convert are in the same folder and convert 'to DVD' as normal.

I used to use winAVI for years to burn eps of Smallville to watch on the TV and never had a single problem
#14
Personally I've never had any problems with ConvertXtoDVD!

Load AVI
Press 'Convert'
30 mins later one episode of Lost being watched on big telly!

when i first used convertxtodvd,i selected 4:3 and it turned out with the letterbox and the square version

im just converting a episode in 16:9 to see what it looks like

i would like it widescreen but without the letterbox, but there is no option for that :?

its not fair, use all make it sound so easy
#18
I don't think I touched any of the settings apart from convert speed. The US TV shows I download always appear widescreen without any black lines anywhere.

I know this sounds obvious but have you not got a setting on your TV to change the screen ratio?
#19
i'd just do the encoding on 4:3. and zoom on your tv if need be. with anamorphic it might come out "squishy"/stick men, on a 4:3 tv! but with letterbox its fine for both
#20
on the tv format tab on convertx,it gives me 3 options

widescreen 16:9
4:3 full screen
automatic
#21
Select automatic then.
#22
if i change the format or zoom it goes horrible, sides get cutt of and magnifyes
#23
il try automatic this time

on the burning tab on convertx do you tick this box

add original files to DVD if possible,

i havent got it ticked, just wondering
#24
is there a function in nero that converts for you
#25
Any luck Jim?
#26

yes but its more than abismal so dont even use it. The compression it uses is pants. Its called Nero Vision Express btw

Don't worry Jim, it's all free. :-D

Don't use Nero as the lip sync is always bad using that.

no dont tick that box. Just tick the 'burn result to DVD' one

Just leave the settings on automatic mate
#29
just got out of shower, converting has finished il give it a go now and let use know how its gone

to burn a disc can you do it this way

open up nero start smart
on the right you got loads of different options, choose "make your own DVD video"
then go ahead from there

the only reason i ask if because when i go through it with the nero burning rom way it always get this message

DVD-video files compliance test failed. the resulting DVD video might not be playable.Do you want to continue
