Hi Everyone

Ok, can anyone convince me that it's worth it getting a Playstation 3?

I already own a Xbox 360 (not elite) and have owned xbox's in the past and still do and going strong, never had a problem

In the past i've had the original Playstation, and PS2, both had laser problems and lasted months, which put me off sony for years.

However recent offers and wanting a change has made me consider the PS3

I can get the 60gb PS3, plus Motorstorm, F1, and Resistance and a Official PS3 remote for £321 (argos with staff discount as I work for the H R Group)

I would still need to buy a HDMI cable for my HDTV etc.

having the blueray would be nice, however i'm not 100% sure that I would be doing the right thing.

Mainly because of :

1 : I hear stories of overheating and other problems
2 : I don't want the laser to pack up like later models of the playstation
3 : There isnt much games out for the platform
4 : No Gran Turismo 5 yet or MGS4
5 : I only have mates with 360's

Is it really worth the money over my existing Xbox 360 or is their no difference in graphics wise.

Should i be considering a 360 Elite with the add on HD Drive

Comments much welcomed.

There is hardly any differnce in graphics at the moment.
Some look abit better on the xbox others look abit better on the ps3

I would as you can use the HD drive with the PC aswel
Apprently the elite is more stable then previous xbox and quieter

just get the PS3 man. do it now!!

i have a 60gb PS3 and a 360 elite.

i play the elite more because HMV sent me my console seperate from the games and because of the backlog i probably wont see my games or my films for a good while!!

We have an elite after having a premium and the console is soo much quieter... The premium used to drive me mad! You should maybe think of selling your premium and buying one :) The pic quality via hdmi is fab too. I didn't think there'd be much difference but there is! :)

The points you make about your mates all having 360's and there being more games for the 360 are all arguements for not getting a PS3...

I'm having the same personal debate. Also a 360 owner since launch day, no problems whatsoever, and have enjoyed the console immensely. Will probably upgrade once the 65nm processor boxes are widespread next year.

My real interest is the DLNA features of the PS3 which are much superior to the 360s 'walled garden' media extender. I'm running a QNAP NAS for movies, music and photos, so the PS3 as media-player is an attractive proposition.

The 40Gb, whilst well priced on its own, is poor value next to the 60Gb deal. Personally I dont miss anything by gettting a 40GB, but they should bundle at least two games with it, to make the £50 price difference more understandable.

I'm waiting on 40Gb deals.

If I was you, access your needs..do you really need the larger hard disk of the Elite? Is hdmi connection necessary?

At the end of the day on the PS3 thread I think you have answered your own question. Personally I dont think its worth investing in a PS3 right now until some decent titles come out.

With Halo 3, PGR 4, Bioshock and Half Life Orange Box all recently released that should be enough for anyone to play on right now on the 360 until perhaps next easter time I am sure the PS3 is going to start to begin to show its worth with gaming titles....currently the 360 is just so much more established on the gaming front.

If you really feel the need to take a break from 360 gaming, have you considered the Wii? Hardly a massive amount of class A titles at the moment, but with Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime Corruption, Resident Evil 4 Wii edition and Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess all available before Christmas even this has a healthier range than the PS3 if Nintendo gaming is at all your thing.

Certainly would be a cheaper option whilst saving some more readies for next year, when the PS3 is cheaper and has more available and you are more assured of the reliability maybe?

Ok after a long think and comments on here and other forums, I have decided not to buy one for the time being

Instead I'm going to sell my 360 Premium and upgrade to an elite with a view to buying a HD drive add on etc in the near future.

I might think about buying a PS3 when they come down a little more as cicobuff said near easter time when the games catalog might be a little better and maybe better deals.

Thanks for everyones comments

i've got both an elite and a 60GB PS3.

i play more on the elite, main reason i've no games with the PS3 thanks to royal mail :w00t: :w00t:

played the ninja gaiden sigma demo on the PS3 though and it feels great on the PS3 pad as opposed to the 360 pad (which i have no problems with to begin with)

its all about preferences mate. i wanted a PS3 for the bluray and a few minor games. i can also use it to surf the web and store files.

its a great machine, it must be said.

the 360 dashboard ***** all over the PS3 menu system though as its really basic (think PSP menu system, only with more options)

im glad i bought mines, i got a good deal on mines which isnt available anymore. cant wait to get some proper games for it.

Well, seeing as i'm too late to convince you to buy a PS3, could I take the time to convince you to use the search function? It's been debated so many times on here...

lol fair point

I find the PS3 pad terrible, it feels like cheap plastic as it weighs pretty much nothing.

Besides in a few months the new PS3 pads are out with rumble feature so if you buy now you would not get the full experience.

Plus 360 games are generally cheaper at minute.

Sorry. I've thought about it and I can't think of a reason.

i just sold my xbox today
most games i want are coming out on both systems
xbox sounds like its going to blow up when you turn it on - (didnt see the point in great quality visuals if theres a constant sound of a hoover going)
xbox breaks alot
ps3 has blue ray
ps3 has wifi

i must admit , most the games on ps3 are either rubbish or of a more japanese style game but that'll change soon. so wait for some goodones then maybe a ps3 in the new year

I say go with the Neo-Geo.

I have had laser problems with all my previous ps consoles too. Still going to buy the ps3 in a month or so when I hav the cash (student loans holding me back just now :S). The main reason for getting it is my ps2 is now only playing a few games and no dvds are working on it. Still getting ps3 tho lol. does it not have a rumble feature on the pads just now? i thought all the ps consoles did.

No rumble at the moment as Sony decided that it was a last gen feature, but a rumbling six-axis controller is finally planned for release over here at the beginning of next year.
