Got my pc in the lounge going through the tv and would like to tart it up a bit. I love using things like media center which is easy to use in a lounge environment with a media center remote control.

I've recently put on Safari browser which has a lovely 3d looking top sites function, although the browser isn't that great itself.

I've also installed Smoothboard which is a touch screen app written for use with the Nintendo Wiimote. I don't use the touch screen part but it means you can use your wiimote as a mouse on the pc which is far better than trying to use a wireless mouse from the sofa.

So, any other ideas to tart it up? I like 3d type apps and other things that work well in the lounge, things like spotify to play virtually any music for free!

Cheers!

I have just setup a dedicated media pc using a free app called mediaportal. After months of trying to get mythtv running with linux, I have gone with mediaportal running on XP its by far IMHO the best mediacentre software available. I have dvb-t and dvb-s tuners setup to watch and record FTA telly and can watch d'loaded movies, music, dvd's and more. Even has a webserver plugin to access it over the internet.

I didnt realise I could use the Wiimote like this.
Any ideas where I can get the IR reciever for my PC (Dell Studio Hybrid) running Vista - might as well get a media centre remote at same time I suppose.

I'll have to look into these sort of apps a bit more as mines justa boring screen (aint even taken the whale fin off the wallpaper yet!)

You need bluetooth on the pc to connect to the wiimote.

The sensor bar is just two IR leds. It doesn't need to connect to anything. The front of the wiimote is just a camera which looks at the position of the IR leds.

Get a wireless sensor bar, I got mine from Amazon for about a tenner, you could use the wii one but the wii will need to be powered on and the wiimote connected to the pc and not the wii.

I'll take another look at mediaportal. I ended up just using media center but I'm always looking for advancements in tech so will look again and see if it's got anything more to offer.

This looks pretty good, used something similar in the past but the free trial ran out. Think this one is free all the time?

Can't get that to work, wants a serial code?

This looks good but only 30 day trial.

This looks good too.
