Coolnewmobile / PhoneBoxDirect under administration. Is there anything we can do?

Hey all.

Much to my chagrin yesterday, I found out that the agent I had take my mobile phone contract out through (coolnewmobile.com) have gone into administration, and it looks like no one is going to be compensated for the loss.

In other words, there aren't going to be any cheque-backs coming anyone's way.

This is really bad news. I'm wondering what the options may be for people in this position now. I'm guessing we don't have a leg to stand on with the mobile phone operators themselves. Is there any hope of being able to cancel the mobile phone contract? Personally, I'm with Three, and I know how great their customer service is ;-). I'm really looking forward to speaking with them, later.

I'm going to try and get on to trading standards and citizen's advice to see if they have any bright ideas. I feel like we're up the proverbial without a proverbial, however.

For information: The other trading names for this company were:

[* Phoneboxdirect
[* Mobile Affiliates Limited
[* Phones2yourdoor

Well, this news is only a few days old (less than a week according to some threads), hardly old news. And certainly not 'old' based on how important this issue is.

AFAIK, there are these threads:

duckmagicuk2 Ref Mobile retailers going into liquidation.
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=115017
The Phones 2 Your Door liquidated
http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/showthread.php?t=114931

But there doesn't seem to be any useful advice on any of the other threads, and there can't be any harm in trying to spark some new fires on this very important issue.

I am in the same situation as you with Phonebox & i doubt very much anyone will see any cashback from these companies as they are no longer trading. The 1st to take any money from them will be Inland Revenue if any is owed and passed down until us the customers but by the time that comes they will nothing left. The most annoying thing is they can start trading again using another name 2morow if they wanted & nobody can do anything.:x

Thanks for the post, Snake. Maybe the answer is that there isn't an answer, and we've just got to bite the bullet.

Still sucks though. ;-)

Well today is the day of the meeting in the house of commons, highly doubt there will be any cashbacks for us but those of you just starting your contract should be ok, they should allow you to cancel it.

Are phones2udirect affected by any of this? Are they owned by the same company?

Thanks for the heads up craigp :)

Sad news esp when I'd great confidence with CNM. They paid all my cashback but few mates are set to lose significant amounts.. I lost ~ £450 with Chatterbox.com - they are still trading and promising to find some ways of paying the cashback.

Thats disgraceful they are allowed to continue with these fake promises and make even more victims!

I have since spoken to Three regarding my contract, and they're basically going to do nothing for me. I can't even downgrade my line rental. If I hadn't already had a couple of year's worth of 12-month free mobile contracts, I would be seriously peed-off by now.
Looks like we don't have a leg to stand on.
