I bought some cartoon dvds on buy it now for my daughter the other day and they have arrived and are very obviously copies. They cost me nearly £18 including postage for 4 dvds which isnt much cheaper than the new shop price but i had money in my paypal to spend so i got them off ebay instead and am very annoyed to find they arent even original! What should i do? Ive contacted the seller but no reply yet

Open a dispute...
#2
were they listed as copies, if not put in a claim via paypal, won`t be a simple refund, like items not received, but maybe push the seller into offering refund
#3
Yes, defo open a dispute, its illegal to sell "Copy Protected" material on ebay and they will ban him for it.
#4
Give the seller till Monday to reply, if they don't then raise a dispute through ebay, if no joy there then raise one through paypal. I had to do this just before christmas. In the end paypal froze his account until he gave me a refund. He was really annoyed because he had nearly £300 in there and they froze the lot! Got my money in the end though.

Yes, your certainly best off going through paypal and opening a dispute, I would also go through ebay to report that the item you have received is a counterfeight as people like that should not have the option to trade and with any luck ebay will suspend the sellers account...
#6
On paypal you can choose the option that the item is different from advertised or words to that effect when you raise the dispute.
#7
you may need to provide proof to paypal that they are indeed fake, from a company in the 'industry'
#9
i got stung at xmas with D.S. games, they played a few times so i left positive feedback, then they stopped working,by time i complained he had shut down his account,so be quick to open dispute. my mistake cost me over £100

Bought Desperate Housewifes series 2 about a year ago... came to the house was fake. But the woman who sold me them didn't know they were. So she gave me a refund and let me keep em. Result.

No, I don't think you will.
You just click on the' item different from listing' button, which is fair enough as it was listed on ebay and counterfeit selling is against the rules. I don't think paypal are going to argue that you you are in the right and should receive a refund.
#12
Nothing to worry about here OP, go through the correct channels and open a dispute and Paypal will force a refund then you send the discs back (Use some kind of registered post).

I would leave Negative feedback but there is a chance of retailiatory feedback.

No they wern't or i wouldnt have bought them! They looked like perfect new originals in the picture but maybe it is originals in the picture as they are selling more than one lot of the same dvds i just noticed. The printing on the boxes and the dvds is faded and the boxes are so light they feel empty which suggests they are cheap dvd boxes bought in bulk

Remember you can still report seller to

Federation Against Software Theft Limited (by guarantee)

That's for pirated computer software, not pirated films/tv shows, etc.

D.S. i bought were listed as original, printing on boxes were perfect, cartridges were identical, to original ones, they are getting so good now to tell them apart, all their feedback was xcellent for about two days before account was closed, then all negs started to appear, can`t beleive i was scammed, but there you go

More like the result was for the seller as a neg and a ban could have been more expensive.
Make sure you deal with this through Paypal and not directly with the seller and make sure when the dispute as been awarded in your favour you neg them. Many buyers get away with this as they manage to get the items back without any consequences ao they can sell on again. You may need to take the item to a local trading standards office to get it verified as fake. They will keep the items but give you a receipt which should be more than enough for your paypal claim.

oh yes...... same woman then. what did you do?
#22
I love the suitable for region 2 quote. Whats laughable is that people are happy to accept them and leave positive feedback.
#23
I left postive tbh, i have had a hard couple of weeks with something going on in the family and i just didnt have the energy to argue the toss, i was going to as she left feedback same before i did, but i have considered reporting her to ebay anyway still.
#24
Well the seller has responded now and was rather blase about it, said they arent the only ones selling copies and dont seem to think they have done anything wrong. I have reported the item number to ebay as fake and also contacted paypal about the item as well as i dont think its fair others get ripped off the same as me.
#25
Well done for doing it, i should of, i know lol

Hopefully she will get banned! I have noticed another seller, selling Ben 10 copied dvds, and its is obvious she is as they say they are good downloaded copies, yet she is still selling them after i reported the item

Thats awful that they get away with it. At least if the listing states they are copies that people arent getting conned into thinking they are getting originals but i honestly dont know how ebay can not ban them from selling this stuff AFTER you have reported it. Beggars belief
#27
Those DVDs look legit looking at them on the auction, i was quite fooled when i opened them for a brief second (not looking at disk) until i saw the Dora one as the printing was horrific on the cover, then i realised - must admit they are good copies but still not the point, i also noticed when i bought them she was classed as a new user, so i reakon she has been banned before from doing it, then signed up in a new name and started again.
#28
Yep well done for reporting, this will protect future buyers from the same problem - make sure you leave a negative once the problem is resolved.
#29
I have just reported her listing she has up at the moment so will see if that happens to disappear or not! Have put it on watch

Reply saying other people commit murder, that doesn't mean its ok :-D

Regarding the paypal dispute i opened, the seller refunded the item so the dispute has just been closed by paypal. Does this mean they can sell illegal dvds as long as they refund you again??! Shouldnt they do something about it rather than just close because they refunded?

Edit - just left negative feedback stating they are illegal copies so hopefully it will warn others and maybe not so many people get caught out with these
#34
I just received a message from the seller saying i am very rude as i left negative feedback!!!! What do they expect for selling fake copies????

eBay and PayPal try to not get involved as much as possible. This is for a number of reasons, including a) with the number of sllers it's hard to police all the auctions. b) it's a legal minefield, in the sense that if they start getting too involved they can be held responsible for all the dodgy auctions that are on their site. c) if they did take action, and get it wrong (i.e. stop someone trading who is selling legitimate goods), then they are exposing themselves to legal action (the only way they could be certain enough would be to do a thorough investigation which would cost too much and they do not have the power/legal rights needed to do properly). d) Because this way they still get money from the sales.

If enough people report the seller, or if several disputes are raised against them, then thier accounts may be closed but oftentimes, nothing is done. :x

that's why you should report them to fact, a nice "police bust" should stop them in their tracks. :w00t:

Well done on giving the Neg. Its just amazing how many people bury their head in the sand when they receive fakes and accept it.
