probs if you split it, duno how you would do that though

if only ps3 supported NTFS the world would be a better place!

if you have a spare external hard drive...

there are lots of programs which let you format a hard drive larger than 4gb to FAT32

the problem is not formatting the drive to fat32, I've got a 40gb hard drive which is fat32, the problem is you cannot put files bigger than 4gb onto a fat32 drive

Eh?

Whats that got to do with it?

OP wants to transfer a file thats bigger than 4GB onto a FAT32 drive. FAT32 has a limit for file size of 4GB

Only way you can do it would be to split it, unless you can use an external with NTFS that can be seen by the PS3 (and I'd think you cant).

my bad. misunderstood the OP

My link not help or do you need it all broken down wihout reading the link?

No way of re-encoding the file down to 4gb ?

If you need it split down you could try somthing like hjsplit (freeware). Used it a bit but not for HD vid files... so dont know if it would affect the playback in any way. Maybe worth a shot though if thats the route you take ;-)

if its on the ps3 HD can it playback a 4gb+ file?
#11
Copy it over the network. The file system on the internal hdd isnt fat32.
#12
stream it with TVersity then copy the file
#13
Why not just burn it to a dual-layer DVD? Or is the PS3 also incapable of copying files from a DVD?

download MKV2VOb for nothing (legit by the way). Google is your friend.

Install

change the settings on the 3rd tab and specify 4gig fat32 and whether you want it as a VOB / MPEG etc

Browse for your mkv using the Browse buttong

Specify a destination directory

Click Add File

Takes about 5-10 mins

transfer the converted file (it'll probably be split into two) to a USB stick

Put the stick in the USB slot of the ps3.

Either play it from the USB stick or transfer it to the PS3 hard drive

Job done!

thanks that looks like the best option

@ bluejam thanks but that doesn't really help, it's not an mkv file I'm trying to put onto the ps3, I know it doesn't support them, I've already got mkv2vob
