Cost New Petrol Tank + Fitting! Warning Of Pitsea Scumbags!

To follow up on my previous thread, I've just had the AA out and there is a small hole in the bottom left of the tank which has been caused by the tank being drilled. You can clearly see the plastic area of the drilling and where some scum has done it.

For the purposes of a warning this looks to have happened at the Tesco Extra at Pitsea whilst being parked nearest to the trees.

So now I need to get it fixed  The AA (through Ford Assist) are towing the car to Ford Dunton who I'll speak to and get a quote for a new tank to be fitted, but in the interim has anyone got any idea on what a new tank and fitting is going to cost me?

Sorry to hear that. So much hassle for you just so they could steal a bit of petrol.

Sorry to hear about that, thanks for the heads up though.

Wow. That is unbelievable. Some people are just utter trash.

I hope that this does not cost you too much.

I'd imagine around £100 for the tank and probably around £100 labour.

Have they got cctv? Have you reported it to the police? You may not be the only one affected in the area.

Thats awful op, ......unbelievable how low people stoop.........all for a bit of petrol oO , probably wont be much help but is there not cctv at Tesco's carpark ? Really shocked at this as our Tesco extra carpark its always busy and would of thought they'd be seen !

Good luck and hope its not too much !

Really feel for you. There are some utter scumbags out there. We've just had the fog lights stolen off our car. Going to cost minimum £200 to get new ones.

Thanks to all. Figure the few hundread quid is about right.

I haven't reported it to the Police yet, but will look into it tomorrow. The Tesco Car Park is a massive one and I parked on the edges which is unlikely to have effective CCTV coverage (I haven't noticed any on the outskirts and as I work with CCTV think I would). Also it is only going to show someone in a hoody and a baseball cap come over to the car and lay down next to it so dont think it will be a major help.

That's pathetic.

OP feel for you also, really bad that the VAT increase is causing such grief to these scumbags that they need your hard earned petrol also.

I still think you should still report it. They might try and attempt other car parks and this will raise awareness. That way you might be lucky to catch the lowlifes!

If its main dealer i bet the tank will be nearer £200 + 2 hours labour

Did it have to go to a main dealer ?

I plan on trying to. All depends on how willing they are to take a report over the phone/internet. Only found the result at 10pm tonight and now have no car to get to Police Station. Also if the quote is very expensive I might need to report it to claim on the insurance.

Sadly so, the car is 7 months old with 2k on the clock so want to preserve the warranty

I can understand you wanting to take it to the dealer but as long the garage is VAT registered and they use OEM parts then the warranty should remain intact.
My motor is only 3 months old and I would take it to the dealer too for piece of mind and less hassle.
By any chance did you go to the fuel station before you went shopping? As you may have been watched fill up.

I've reported events to the police at night. There's a non urgent telephone number for our area and they transfer me to another number. The police told me they don't want to come and look at the place a stolen car was once parked, or similar, but they definitely want to know what's going on.

Sorry it's happened to you, it's a bummer. An aquaintance had her tank drilled in Whitstable Kent overnight, but years ago.

I've got £1500 of heating oil in the garden in a giant plastic tank, hoping that escapes the eyes of thieving illigitimates.

Crap news that OP & it seems the criminals have stooped to a new low but it's the governments fault that petrol prices are so high & we all need to stand together & do something about it like the French
#15
I hardly think you can blame the government for some low life, scum sucking, bottom feeding inbred stealing petrol. I say we should bring back burning at the stake. Petrol is afterall highly flammable and would be a fitting way for whoever it was to end his time with the rest of us...... if only David Cameron had my insight Great Britain would rule the world.
[helper]#16
I had a tiny hole in my tank from a bit of road debris and used some petrol tank putty to seal the hole. I think it was going to be at least a couple of hundred for a new tank.....
#17
Seeing as its criminal damage, will insurance not cover it?
#18
Could you not claim on your insurance?
#19
A bit of a random question, but on topic........ is there any available security system which actually video records your car? i.e. cameras inside the car looking out?
#20
I didnt go to the fuel station beforehand and also think its scum not the Government's thought, as bad as fuel tax is it's no execuse.

Might be able to claim on insurance but the excess is a couple of hundred quid so need to work out if it is worth it once I get a quote.
#21
Think your be looking at nearer £500 than £200 at the main dealer but may be wrong let us know when you get the quote if its ford it will be high shame they dont make metal tank as the sparks may have set it of burning the thieving scum to death.

OP just put in the car Reg on the link & then choose Petrol tank & it will tell you how much.
