Cost of stamps...need 96p which stamps please

Hi
Sorry but i have looked at the royal mail website and its a mine field.
I have to post a large letter size that has been weighed and i need to pay 96p
I have large letter stamps as well as first class and because they dont have prices on anymore cant for the life of me work out which stamps to put on.
The royal mail site is baffling. It obviously wants you to do everything online.
Anyone know or give me a link to the actual cost of stamps so i know which ones to put on please.

Can you not print on-line or go to the PO?

hmmm ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^this
or just stick 3 first class stamps on it?

Think i have found it on wiki....looks like first class stamp is 41p and first large letter is 66p.
So it would look like i have to put one of each on at a cost of £1.07
Can i check you can mix the large letter stamps with standard letter stamps.
Ps in the good old days not so long ago it was not this complicated.

I would never over pay on postage.

Can you not nip in to the PO and they will add 30p postage to your 66p.

Thanks everyone...usually do it online but i already have his address on the envelope so just wanted to stick stamps on.
We also are out in the country and the nearest PO is about 5 miles away.
Think i will have to get a few more stamps of different amounts for future....as the 96p one seems to be the usual for a dvd or game.
I am sure post office do this to get more money out of you.
Cheers everyone. Have a nice afternoon.

I agree.

Why can't it be 1, 2 or 3 1st class etc..

It would be so much easier.

Using this link (thanks to queenlush for that) leads to this page, via intermediate links in the PDF and website urls suggested for further information.

http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1;jsessionid=2523HDKPHKS12FB2IGVEQEQUHRA0WQ2K?catId=1000002&mediaId=110800775

The page says:

The 1st Class Large Letter price will increase to 66p for stamp and remain at 50p for meter

The 2nd Class Letter price will increase to 32p for stamp and remain at 25p for meter.

So 66+32=98, so you overpay 2 pence if you stick on one 1st Class Large Letter stamp and a 2nd Class Letter stamp.

Better than any other combination I have see suggested so far.

Can you not ask at the post office to confirm if this is valid, or even necessary, when you take it to them and post over the counter?

I agree.

It would be so much easier.

and so much more expensive if every weight differential went up by one 1st class stamp! :w00t:

OP, just buy 100 x 1p, 100 x 2p and 100 x 5p stamps next time you are in the PO.

and 96p = 3 x 2nd class stamps

I have an excel spreadsheet which tells you the best stamps to put on for a given value if anyone wants a copy.

I think thats why they stopped putting the price on the stamp. Now they can put them up and most people dont really realise.

The only problem with putting your own stamps on and putting them in a postbox is you've got no proof of postage for the buyer in event of loss and no proof for yourself to claim anything back from the PO.

you can put on the large letter stamp and a 2nd class stamp to make up the value to 98p but beside the stamps write with pen '1st class large letter', this is what i was advised by 1 of the girls at the post office, but no proof of posting which someone else pointed out.
