Inspired by the North Korean topic.

I would love to see the abandoned city of Prypyat if i have spelled that right, i have a deep fascination for the whole thing, I'm old enough to remember Chernobyl and the old childhood fears, hold your breath when crossing the train tracks as those trains you hear at 2am are full of culled sheep from the fallout and the carriages are known to leak on the track.

I don't have the fascination with Fukushima so i think its both the disaster mixed with the alien vista of communism, that area with the mix and subsequent abandonment and overgrowth like a forgotten world.

Maybe one day I'll get my son a passport and we will go, I've only ever left the country once and I'm getting on for 40

Hey son, you know how you've always wanted to go on holiday? Well guess what, we're going to a scene of nuclear fallout!

Why are you crying?

Agree that place is awesome, my mum says I'd love it.

For the record my mum has been all over the world, shes in her 70s now shes always been the sort to have few possessions and spend all her cash traveling, her last holiday last year was whale watching in northern Canada and she stayed at a tiger sanctuary in India he time before that, so forgive my refferences to my mum a lot in this thread.

Space is awesome but i dont think I'd have the guts for the journey to and fro

Do you keep upto date with a launch calendar? The dragon is the most spectacular sight (ISS resupply ship)

Oh well then of course the obvious choice is Pripyat.
Make sure you see he midday parade of Disney princesses (radioactive edition). It's the happiest place on post-apocalyptic Earth.
He'd rather see broken cars thanks he has no interest in disney neither did i at his age, it would be more educational for him then the land of animemorphic animals and porno vid distribution
Are you real?
Are you? You seem to like baiting people in every topic no matter how innocent and I wonder why that is.
Sorry but it's just strange to hear someone say that they've barely been out of the country and that when they do they'd like to take their son to a nuclear wasteland.
Maybe not Disneyland but not even somewhere they could take a dip in the ocean?
Can you even get a lead-lined Trunki?
of what consequence is it to you where the OP would like to visit? You don't know them or there son's personality traits and so for them this may be something over which they could really bond.
Go troll some other thread. I actually think this is a quite interesting question.
In answer to the original question. I plan on doing route 66 at some point. I've been to the states a few times but I want to ride across on a Harley with my old man before he gets too old to do it.
Route 66 doesn't exist anymore... it's mostly interstate, you may as well ride the M5.

I'd never go America (not that part anyway) out of principle but the route by any other name I'm sure is a great thing to behold, personally I've always had a longing to be "the road warrior" i doubt a change in name would affect that feeling in that route.

Which part would you go to? It's went from Chicago to California and cut through about 10 states so it covers a fair chunk of the country. You don't strike me a Florida type!

It's not just a change in name, Route 66 was (mostly) a two land road that cut through 'mom & pop' country. It's been replaced by a 5 lane interstate highway miles from anything of any relevance outside of out of town shopping malls. You couldn't compare the two experiences.

Love historical places - thankfully this island is steeped in them, also love scenery - never ever understood the desire to lay on a beach for two weeks.

It's nice to dream about all those facinating places abroad, but sometimes we need to wake up and realise peeps from all over the world dream about all the facinating places right here in the UK - places most of us haven't ever visited in our whole lives - despite being just a few hours drive from them.

Never heard of that before but sounds really interesting.

Fairly decent write up below for anyone else interested and sounds like the Captain wasn't having you on:
