Could Somebody Please Help Me With A Sky + Problem? (Trouble viewing a recorded programme/updating my sky+ Box)

I can't view anything I've recorded, I get the info about the programme but when I select it nothing happens. I've tried doing the planner rebuild but still nothing. I've heard that updating the box could help because I really don't want to loose the things I've already recorded. I found info about updating the box but it says 'Do not attempt a firmware upgrade if your Sky Digibox already has the latest firmware version' How do I know if I have the latest firmware?
According to my box the Operating System Version is 1.31BO7 and the EPG Software Version IS 5.04.e

But on the website it says
"The latest operating system version is 1.2S4FJ and EPG software version is 3.7.6.ns (Feb 2009). This firmware version is for a Pace Digibox, (non Sky +) after the latest Digibox software update. If your Skybox has an older version of firmware, you can force a Digibox software upgrade (in UK only) by following the instructions below......"

Can anyone please help?????
Thanks

Sometimes just rebooting the box sorts these sort of problems out. Just unplug the power cable for a couple of mins, then power it back up. Takes a few mins to come back on, but usually works when i get a problem.

Have you downgrade your package recently, I had some movies recorded, I got rid of the movie channels and because of that anything I had recorded from sky movies wouldnt play.

I would do a reload of the software, this does not delete programs.

unplug box from mains
hold down backup button on the box NOT remote
keep holding the backup button !
plug back into mains
keep holding button, after about 10-15 secs a message comes on screen
let go of backup button !

Ok thanks, when I plug back into the mains and keep holding the backup button do I need to turn the box on so the light goes green or leave it on standby with a red light?
Thanks

Just keep holding the button, then all the front lights will light up after about 10 seconds and you will get the message in screen, you dont need to press anyting else

Whenever my box is playing up, which is more and more these days i just switch it off at the plug, leave it about 10 seconds and switch it back on and it takes about 5 mins to come back on but then works fine. I been with sky over 2 years now tho so maybe a call mite be in order threatening to move to virgin mean as my house is set up for cable and hopefully i mite get a nice new box out of them! Friend did it and they gave him a HD box free and fixed the old one as well for him, all he had to pay was instalation of the HD box! maybe you could try that.

Leave it unplugged overnight and try in morning, other than that a full reset but you will loose all the recordings

You can always take the drive out and use Copy+ and backup the programs you want to keep, then do a full reset and transfer them back

Thats a bit to complicated, I'd prob do more harm then good as I haven't got a clue how to do it. Thanks for all your help.

I agree with deanos that you should leave it overnight or at least for a good deal longer than a few minutes. I had a similar problem earlier this year and sky wanted me to wipe the hard drive! I said no thanks and just left it for a while. It worked fine when I plugged it in some time later.
