Could this be evidence of xenophobic voting?

There is a post on here just now for low priced phone calls.

I checked the price with the site I used before calling international numbers - and the post listed the best price. So I voted it HOT.

Initially the post showed the price of calls in the title as "0.5pence" and in the price box as £0.50 which was later changed to £0.01, as it seems the site cannot list a price as a fraction of a penny.

So currently the post has roughly -100 lack of heat. However its the best price I could find - so I was left wondering if it was just xenophobic voting, as the cheap calls are to India.

What do you think?

Its not my post originally - and I have included the link to the thread, so its live, as the first post below.

Funny I just saw that deal and thought exactly the same thing! Great minds and all that...

No, I don't believe so
#4
I belive the cold votes went on before the edit.

Saw the deal but didn't vote either way as the deal was of no interest to me - why people vote some deals hot and others cold can be difficult to fathom but xenophobia is a reason I haven't seen suggested before......

If you make a fuss about the cold voting, people will vote it cold just to annoy you.
#6
I reckon it was voted cold because the OP made a mess of posting it initially.

Sadly calls to india are far more expensive, my mums with the Post office & calls to landlines in Australia are free (under 60 mins) but for some odd reason most people in Aus dont have landlines, spoke to my brother yesterday and he said that it is due to the fact that most companies tie you into 24 month contracts???, couldnt believe when i was there last year that the tv's dont even have scart connection & hdmi is a dream for them!!!

Seems so but shouldnt be.
Unfathomable why some people vote cold and some people vote hot. I think if a deal would benefit anyone interested in it then its a hotdeal x

Just voted it hot :)

However as I said to you in the other vote - and it was standing at between -30 and -40 when you commented - you had to read the price in the title which said 0.5pence to compare that to the price as it was shown in the box as £0.50 - so it was quite obvious what had happened. Obviously you read the title to see what you thought "£0.50" was a bad price for, so how did you miss the "0.5pence"?

Indeed.

It got voted hot because it was a good deal - it got voted cold because the members are xenophobic. Hmmmm. It does make me wonder sometimes why people feel the need to jump on the race card when things don't quite go their way.

That's a bit of a one liner!

Explain why?

Simple reply......no I don't. It was a deal that was misrepresented at first, OP got narkey when it was pointed out and as others have said........the voters see this and want to simply annoy the OP even more.

Some people need to get a grip lol

Deals aren't about stats......

No one has posted a lower price.

It was not a case of things not going my way. It was not my post - and was the best price I could find when I looked. This left little range for reasons to justify its vote plummeting.

Had better prices been posted then obviously it would be cold - however, as I said, having checked could find none better.

So clearly as it was not my post it was not an example of things not going my way - and why else should what so far appears to be an unbeatable price be voted cold?

Can you find one better?

If not - could you offer another reason for the poor vote?
#18
Personally, I think it is really sad that you can find anything xenophobic about this post?
How can you even consider that, sick minded IMO
I have not voted hot or cold as I dont as I have no preference
[helper]#19
I've seen quite a few deals on Hot Deals where the OP has got a bit narkey with some comments in the thread and nearly every time the response is cold votes (even if it is a good deal). This is far more likely an explanation than xenophobia.

Perhaps you calling members "little englanders" in the thread wasn't exactly the most PC correct thing to do? Yet you complain about xenophobia.

Look up Irony.

Amazing, you've brought xenophobia into something where previously there was none.

The original poster handled it pretty well - given there was a completely obvious error that the price appeared as a fraction of a pound instead of a penny - but he had the price listed in the heading as "0.5pence" - so its not as if what you call a misrepresentation would have misled anyone, as they had to read the post to know if the £0.50 shown was a good price, and so what had happened would be immediately apparent.

Deals ARE about stats - and that is why we vote on them.

It would be easy to draw another opinion from your comments, as you entirely fail to address the issue that it could be possible.

Why else would a price no one has managed to improve upon get a frozen vote?

The MULTIPLE answers to this very question are already here.

"Little englander" is an expression - I included a definition later for those who found english in common usage a challenging concept.

Go back and read it.

Or look up a dictionary.

so that makes me a racist?
I cant speak for people who vote cold so it is not my responsibility to address the issue.
Ask some self confessed racists on here, they may help you

(British) someone who advocated an end to the British Empire

(British) someone unaware of the world outside England

(British) a bigoted and nationalistic English person

oh yes, I see it now

Blame Liddle then. He said he saw the deal and despite thinking it was a good deal and says he didn't vote on it until you complained about xenophobia in this thread.

As Gari has said, people vote cold when people complain and demand hot votes. Can't really understand why anyone cares. It's not like you earn anything for getting a hot deal is it.

I offered my reasons for the response to the deal there - and then offered the chance to discuss the reasons for my belief for the cold vote here.

However, I suspect all this thread as done was revealed the original cold voters. :whistling: :whistling: :whistling:
