Mr Ray Warren
Penauille Servisair
London Heathrow Airport
Middlesex

12th September 2006

Dear Mr Warren

Please find attached a copy of my CV.

I am writing with regards to the position of Cargo office agent as advertised in the recent Skyport newspaper and also by recommendation from Ernest and Khalid who both work at your offices at Heathrow.

At the present moment I am working at Swissport Cargo Services as an exports agent where I purely deal with exports. When I joined Swissport last October my main area of work consisted of handling cargo for Singapore Airlines. I have first hand knowledge of their cargo operation and procedures which would be advantageous to your company.

I have excellent communication and customer service skills when dealing with the general public and have a good telephone manner. I have the ability to adapt quickly to new working environments/procedures and work well within a team using my initiative as an individual.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for considering my application. I can be contacted on the telephone or email address above at any time and I would be also available for an interview at your convenience.

I look forward to hearing from you soon

yours sincerely,

Nina Patel.

My advice would be to keep the covering letter really short, if you're applying for a job via a Recruitment Agency. Remember, they probably get loads of applicants, so if the covering letter is short and sweet, they will hopefully open your CV and read that too.

And just simply detail why you're suitable for the application in the covering letter - if the job description asks for experience in cooking, flying, typing, etc. etc., then your letter should say something like:

"I am suitable for this application because :

+ I have regularly cooked for up to 200 people
+ I am a qualified pilot who has flown over 300 hours
+ I touch type at a speed of 86 words per minute"

I hope this helps.

Oh, and if you are applying via an Agency, then make sure you phone them the next day and tell them you're suitable and ask if they've received your CV.

Good luck.
