Cracked Windscreen - What is the cheapest option to repair/replace?

Would be grateful for any advice. Have just noticed a crack in my windscreen, looks too big to be repaired. Just wondered what are the options and approximate minimum/maximum costs for a replacement.

Is it possible to pick one up from a scrap yard and have it fitted?
Is it best to go to someone like Autoglass?
Is is best to go to the main dealer? (Presumably more expensive).

Mant thanks, Rep given for useful advice.

find out if your insurance company is affiliated with anyone as usually linked with companies like autoglass, if you have windscreen cover on your car insurance claim off that, (usually a £60) excess applies, however it does not count as a claim and ruin your no claims bonus or put your premium up in the future

If your fully comp insurance it will either be free or about £60 to repair, check your policy!

But you do have to declare you have claimed for a windscreen replacement on your next policy...

But like lockstockdude states it doesn't go against you...

I regularly see companies like Autoglass parked up in supermarket car parks offering to repair windscreens there and then for free.
I've never needed to use them but always wondered what they got out of it.

That is in Harlow, Essex by the way.

That's why I said repair in my reply.

It sounds like the OP only thinks it is too big to repair. These guys would have told him.

I have had to declare my windcreen since 2007, I was with MoreThan at the time.

Also some **** hit my car the same year. I called MoreThan to tell them I had been hit, (Just so they were aware if something went tits up!) Didn't make a claim through them, yet it was put on my policy!! Now I have to tell every insurance company about that too... It could be just MoreThan... I dunno,

Nevermind,

OP, Have you got it fixed yet???
