Credit card refund

Some advise please, my mother bought me some clothing from next on her credit card. I do not like what she has bought me and would like to get a refund. I understand that because she bought it on her CC that it has to be returned to the card. I have the receipt and am happy for the money to go back on her card and then for her to give me the money instead. Heres the problem !!!. My mother has gone to America for 2 months and has her card with her. The question is: Do I actually need my mothers credit card to hand in order for them to pay back the money onto it ?, (all the details of the card / transaction are on the receipt). Many thanks if you can help.

According to the DSR you have a minimum of 7 days to return an item if it was bought over the Internet.
If not, then I think it is up to the shop and how they handle refunds. You could phone them and ask.
If you have the receipt, then they may give you a credit note but they won't be able to put it back on the card without the card holder being present. The shop will have paid a 2.5% handling fee on your Mums Credit Card transaction so I think they would like to try and recoup that charge back.
Could your Mum add you to her card so you would be able to sort this out? That could take a couple of weeks to come through though.

I work on customer service in a supermarket and you're right. They always put it back on a card if paid by card as said above because of the fee they're charged. Have you tried ringing them and explaining the situation they may give you cash back as you have the receipt, or otherwise may offer a credit note. Don't leave it too long as they will be getting in their summer clothes soon, so will less likely be able to resell what you are taking back.

Shops are not actually allowed to refund an item if bought on a card unless they put the money back on the card. Which can cause problems but it isn't the shops fault, however as things like this happen a lot especially around christmas a lot of shops will give you a credit note for their store as a good will gesture. Thats what we do where I work, however be nice to the cashier, as if customers are nasty then management will half of the time tell them to get lost as they don't actually have to do anything without the card.

If the card is chip and pin you do need the card to be present and you need to put the pin in, the same as if you were making a purchase.
