They keep ringing my home phone desperately trying to contact someone who I have never heard of,i have told them that have the wrong number and I do not know the person they wish to speak to and they then asked if my address was blah blah blah (my correct address)

They are getting quite shirty with me on the phone but I genuinely do not know who it is they are after and just want them to stop hounding my phone,it rings and when you answer it a recorded message says hold the line transferring your call and then you get someone from a call centre answer it,the last woman to ring demanded i give her my full name and date of birth to which i refused as it has nothing to do with them, sooo how can I stop them ringing? tried just hanging up as soon as i hear the recorded msg but they stay on the line and are still there when you pick the phone up a few minutes later???

I've searched the number they are ringing from and it goes back to credit solutions so i guess it is a debt collection company of some sort or another, have no idea how they got my number im ex directory

Ask your phone provider to block their number, tell the company you are seeking legal advice because of their continued harrasment.
#2
Try joining the telephone preference agency, or blow a whistle down the phone, they never ring back after i do that lol

I'm with that TPS thing, joined that ages ago and it seemed to stop the double glazing callers lol
thing is they have the correct address,I'm wondering if it is something to do with the ppl who used to live here who used various names and gained credit and recently went bankrupt

how does that work?!

Liking the whistle idea. Better still force feedback down the phone (connect two phones to your landline close together, hold the mouthpiece of one next to the earpiece of the other. Nasty.).

While on the phone ask them to take it to the small claims court and then explain to them at that point and in no uncertain terms that you look forward to it as (1) they have the wrong person, and (2) demanding money from someone by harrassment is against the law. Explain this to them, record their phone calls but be sure to tell them that you are recording the call beforehand.

Play them at their own game.

either that or tell them where to go :) Call you phone company and explain the situation to them, call the police if you have to as it is classed as harrassment since the company calling you is making no reasonable attempts to confirm your identity (over the phone doesnt count as it could be a fraudster)..and continually calling you.

change your phone manner

Be nasty but firm with them ask who they are head office etc then goto tps website and fill out complaint with the details of the company.

Explain to company they have the right number but no one of that name lives at address and for them to check electoral register (you check first and if that name they enquire about is on there, phone police as someone is trying to commit fraud with your address and have tehm get it sorted out and give crime ref number to company hassling you)

This will not solve the problem! A determined agency will keep sending letters and people to the house it's not nice. A simple recorded letter will stop the debt being chased at this address and will also allow the crf's to be updated as the debtor having moved on.
Op, for the hassle of changing your phone, just send a letter to credit solutions by recorded delivery.

I was just gonna type change your phone as in the model(not their actual phone number) for a laugh to lighten the mood then I thought better of it and edited as sometime I can cause offence(or words get mixed up by reader and their meaning) then without really meaning to upset someone when only trying to lighten the mood.

I always then follow up that kinda of post with some advice whether it be usefull or not.

I had this and in the end they actually sent someone to collect some money this person owed.

I showed them my ID and they left, since then I've had less calls

It will stop, I promise you that, just mention you will go to the OFT and the financial ombudsman if they ignore the letter! Don't forget that bit!
