Would you cry? Be suicidal or laugh at your own moronic stupidity

......

Police are investigating after a man said he left £80,000 on top of car then drove off.

Officers said the cash had vanished and they were treating the incident in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, as a theft.

They said the man told how he put the cash on top of the car early on November 18 but did not realise what he had done until later.

"Police were contacted on Friday, November 19, by a man reporting that he had lost £80,000 in Prince Avenue, Westcliff," said a spokesman.

"He told police that he had accidentally left the money on the top of his car before driving off on the morning of Thursday, November 18 at 6.20am.

"He later realised what he had done. Essex Police has seized evidence found at the scene, to be checked for fingerprints."

He said officers had checked local CCTV cameras and inquiries were ongoing

i read this in the metro earlier in the week. Apparently its an old guy who kept his life savings in his car as he didn't trust the banks.
silly thing to do but i feel sorry for him

The unidentified man, who was moving the cash between his home and his place of work, doesn’t trust the banks, the Daily Mail reports.

So rather than put the money in an account, he usually kept it hidden under his bed. But after deciding to keep the cash nearby at all times, he prepared to take it with him to work.

“My car is never more than 10 feet from me at work so I can keep on eye on it,” he told the Daily Mail. “That morning I left about 6:20 a.m. and didn’t realize I had lost it until noon.”

He raced home to see whether he had left it there, and then realized he must have put it on the roof of his car. A frantic search turned up the plastic bag the money had been stored in, but not the cash itself.

“I’m gutted,” the man, who works as a painter and a “panel beater” (a British term for someone who repairs vehicle bodies), told the Daily Mail. “I don’t hold out much hope of getting it back but if I do I will give a reward to whoever brings it back.”

Police in Essex, near where the man lives, have called for the return of the cash. And, as the Mail notes, they’ve also urged people to keep their money in banks.

Give a reward? Now that's funny!

In todays climate I don't think £10k for returning £80k will cut it.

Bless the stupid old **** though!

I would feel sorry for him but you've got to be a pleb if you transport that amount of cash with you rather putting it in a bank.

I've put stuff on the top of my car and driven off without realising, though I might just a little bit more care with £80K than that!

What makes you think that wasn't his destination at some point in the day? Besides, Under the bed might be considered safer in this climate!

Probably because the story advises us he had a distrust of banks, and that he was taking it to work. He didn't work in a bank.
Do keep up Guv!

o no.. poor old goat.....

like they think a reward would make anyone hand it in... have to say if I found 80k no way would I be giving it back ...:p

I'd like to think i would but couldn't honestly say i would because the temptation would be huge. Such a lot of money poor old geezer. I have to say though i can confidently state i would NEVER forget that i had left 80k on the car roof. I've done it with my phone and dummies before but nothing like that.

The really sad thing is that if they ever find the money, they'll almost certainly seize it under the Proceeds Of Crime Act until he can prove he obtained it legally.

id give it back......i wouldnt feel right cos its a heck of a lot of money to gain so its a heck of a massive loss to someone else.

I didn't say you could do it, neither would I. The point I was making was the person that took it will not have any qualms about spending it and nothing will come of it. If you or I were to take the chance something would happen to make us regret it.

Let me get this straight. He wants me to give him his £80k back and he'll give me a reward???:p

Firstly, I would laugh, then cry, then commit suicide.
