they're generally trying to get extra business by selling stuff in their Irish stores at the UK VAT rate of 15% rather than the normal 21.5%, and are using the image below to promote it

What's wrong with that?
if it means cheaper prices who's going to complain?
it says quite plainly they will on;ly charge the UK vat rate so whats the difference in saying that , or 6.5% vat discount?

Same as buying from Amazon Jersey IMO.

Amazed.

Last time I worked with a NI company I mistakenly used amber/green/red on white paper for a traffic light system for a flow chart. It was not well received.

It's the using of the Union Flag with the tricolour colours that people will be upset about.

A bit off topic, I have speakers bought off curry that have broken down. (it was bought just under a year ago at currys). Do they offer returns/ refunds easily? If they don't have the item anymore do they give refund?

end of the day some people might go loco over this - i can see their point as some are very patriotic – others not so. I personally not too bothered with the UK flag. Change the Scottish flag to white and red and then see what happens…

It might have escaped your notice but relationships between the ROI and the UK have not been the best.

I'm not totally ignorant but there's a lot worse things going on in the world to get offended by

It is in bad taste (what do you expect from a currys employee) but as a proud (ish...) Englishman, I'm not gonna be offended by something so crass.

Rare beef steak pictures perhaps lol

slightly off topic but are the Northern Irish actually officially British considering that Northen Ireland is not part of Great Britain?

I do know the answer but isnt it about time that Great Britain included N.Ireland? Or just stop using the term Great Britain.

Northern Ireland is part of GB...

And back on topic - I don't see a single problem with Currys' promotion, in fact I think it's rather clever. If you have a problem with it, you really need to look at more important problems in the world. It's that view that fuelled the troubles and still causes underlying tensions today.

No, Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain.

Unfortunately there are many people in the ROI and NI that would take this very seriously.

Yes, there are worse things in the world (although the British - Irish conflict isn't exactly pretty and things like this help nothing). However, why does that preclude you from thinking it isn't the most tasteful idea and probably not a good one in a difficult political situation. There are many people in NI/GB and the ROI that will not appreciate the colours and flags being combined.

Fair enough, you're very right. Still the UK though, so that's good enough for me. The distinction between UK and GB means very little to me

Indeed, my bad, I assume that GB and UK are the same - Not that it actually matters in my opinion.

Oh, I am well aware of those who would take it seriously - I haven't lived in NI all my life with my eyes closed you know ;) But I do think the conflict is completely pathetic.

The divide between "Catholics and Protestants" is one of the single most ridiculous things in the history of mankind. They claim to both believe in the same God (most of these idiots have no idea about their so called religion and use it as an excuse for trouble), have different opinions on how to worship him (they worship the same God in different ways - So lets bomb each other for it?) and so we have a divide.

If they were truely Christian, should they not respect each other's views and live in harmony? Naah, because they're not.

(I'm aware of the over-simplification of the above, but to be honest, it's not too far from the modern day reality)

As above. As a NI citizen I don't have a problem with the witty combination of the flag. Of course, the local hoods would (as above). *Sighs*

Very likely. I don't go in for all that though.
