customs charges-how did I get away with this?

Always been pretty luck at getting away with customs charges with stuff ordered from america, but knew the risks involved.

Ordered a pile of stuff from springsteens american website and postie just brought it-in total 310 dollars worth. Bag had been opened by customs and resealed in a plastic bag. Sender had declared full value on the customs form and yet no charge.

How did that happen? not complaining obviously but was sure when I saw the resealed bag I was gonna get asked for money by the post office.

I don't know but I got away with a zune from the usa full price listed and no custom charges. However now I have to deal with paypal claim so I guess I am not as lucky as you.

That's strange and very lucky!!

I got caught for about £24 customs charge on a parcel worth about $100 before.

Makes you sick really!!

I seem to get caught with everything these days. Was ordering quite a bit of stuff from american eagle and avoided customs but every parcel gets caught now.

I know, however my evil side wants the paypal claim to end me having to send it back and putting a large sum on the customs declaration so the seller gets hit with large custom charges (seller is scum)

I've never understood how customs levy their charges, I ordered a complete Harley Davidson engine from the US, a total of $7000 delivered via UPS and incurred no charges, yet a week later ordered the "matching" sunglasses and had to pay £19 for a $50 spend.
Obviously I'm not complaining, just puzzled how it works!

It is just based on what can get through.....it can be random.

No. However if the delivery doesn't include to your door (ie a courier has to bring it over) they can charge you a handling fee.

Incorrect. You can be charged after the fact.

Has happened to me numerous times.
