I've just picked up a second hand ipod shuffle. No instructions.

It already has some good music on it and some tosh like leona lewis!

1. If I connect it to my pc, will it come up with all the music stored on it?

2. Can I download music, saved on my laptop, to the ipod or must I use itunes and buy all the music through there?

3. Am i really as thick as I sound??!! pmsl

Thanks peeps

1.yes you can view the music stored on the ipod when you connect to your pc....but don't sync it otherwise you'll lose the songs on it.

1 dunno, had problems here myself
2 yes, import your songs into itunes, and that manages your ipod, you cant just drag songs onto ipod
3 no, I hate itunes, and prefer my drag and drop player

In my experience you cannot use iTunes properly with songs preloaded onto an iPod. When I had this problem I used a freeware program from aimersoft to get the music off and then connected the iPod to iTunes, erased it and added the songs back on

1 - If you plug it into itunes then it'll list the music already on it, you can then delete what you want from it keeping the stuff you like. You cant, with itunes anyway i dont think, copy the music from the ipod to your PC.

2 - You can buy through itunes or if you download it or its already on your laptop, just add to your itunes library and drag n drop onto ipod.

3 - I've seen dafter questions on HUKD before put it that way.

This is good advice because when an iPod it connected to iTunes for the first time it will insist on wiping the iPod first. What a couple of people have said here is wrong, It will not display the songs that are already on the iPod, to save that music you should follow strikerman's method.

it might insist...at which point you say No. I've recently plugged my sisters ipod nano into mine, which has only ever been used for 2 ipod touch's and all her songs came up fine. She then dragged some of the songs she wanted from my pc onto her ipod and it worked fine.

I've just tried it again with a friends iPod Classic. When I connect iPod, iTunes says "this iPod has never been synced with this PC before". Choice is sync and erase contents of iPod or cancel. Clicking cancel results in list of songs on iPod to be displayed in the 'music / contents of ipod' section. They are all greyed out, I can't do anything with them, click on them or drag them anywhere, so I can't copy them back to PC. Neither am I able to add songs from PC to iPod ("not allowed" mouse cursor shows").
