Hurray, you're back.
I have been worried! A very Happy New Year to you Suze. Probably cutting J's hands off is a bit extreme - tie them behind him and give him a good talking to!
Back later. :-D
Right - I'm back!

Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together - Vincent Van Gough

Depends what! A great thing could be a impulsive act of kindness.
Add 2 V's to the phrase CHANGING TONE and you can rearrange all the letters to create the full name of a famous person from the nineteenth centurey. Who is it

Very quick there, marc.
So, I hope you've had a good NY Suze, hubby's knee on the mend and a happy family time, circumstances permitting.
We had a lovely time and my hang-over went by the evening ( Saturday evening).

Is the avvy make-over indicative of the real thing?

An HOUR at the gym seems rather a lot hottoshop. A good thing though, for sure. keep it up. I have done 5 minutes on the exercise bike.

I just checked back to the old thread and I see we have football, nougat, Desiderata, cat and 'Eye of the Tiger' a la Rocky in the last few posts - immense.

Freezing still here and fairly treacherous on the dog walk but better than mud!

I need to try and get out in the garden soon as there are still jobs that should have been done in October. Too cold for me yet though.

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii78/chesso_photos/garden4thjan2010Medium.jpg

Hope your palms are tucked somewhere safe Suze. I have had several terracotta pot rims fall apart this week.

Our electricity failed at about 2.45 am in the night - less that an hour after our low tariff electricity starts so we were pretty cold this morning . Also a bit worried as we were the only house in our row without power, so we were thinking that it was just us and a horrible problem . Anyway we have a coal fire, candles and a gas camping stove, so we could have managed. The main thing is to have the morning cuppa; I think you'll all agree. They came out about 11.30 and a cable had burned out on the overhead supply lines, across the road. Condorman was telling me that the power ( alternating current every 1/50th of a second) is supplied along three lines each with a different phase, one third of the one fiftieth, displaced, which was why our neighbours' houses were OK, but he was surprised as usually they supply adjacent proprties with the same phase. Anyway they fixed it PDQ so we are OK.

hello folks, i have officially migrated to the new thread lol.

glad to have you back suze, hope all's going good.

pity about the electricity phasing striking out when it's cold, yes 50 Hz AC is good. you're lucky you're not totally dependent on electricity. warmed by fireplace sounds nice.

suze's PALMS are somewhere warm lol, in the gloves?

So we've nearly all arrived safe and sound in the new 'home'. I expect that hottoshop is still being massaged after an hour in the gym! That escalatored one looks like my sort of place.

Yes, I love the 50Hz
Actually the utilities have always come out pretty quicky for local problems, although they have in the past cut off our electricity so that the nearest larger town would have priority when there was a big balckout. Plus the builder next door has to take a deep breath before talking about gas/water/electricity services to new builds!!
I see you are here Suze. Thank you re the palm and Boris. I wish I were that cold resistant.
No weight gain over Christmas?? Well done you. I haven't started ny regime yet due to cold, darkness and so much cake and chocs in the house. I think that one dusky pink item is acceptable Suze hehe!! Sounds like you are kitting the slim you out with some 'threads'. Pink gloves are fine.
The knee is bound to take a while but it is frustrating when things don't work and are painful. Physio - persistence pays. Did you ever finish scanning the pics? That's a task to while away many more hours.

Hubby's knee is ok, but he is still struggling - cannot stand up for long periods, can't kneel at all, can only drive for about 5 minutes (tried for the first time today) but is still persiting with the physio and is taking less painkillers. So, all in all good but slow progress. He has been signed off until Monday. But, is getting increasingly fed up and frustrated with being unable to do " stuff ".

I found it !!! Bit late in the day I know but better late than never.

Another quick Scotsman ? We are being invaded !! Well done Marc, your prize will come in the form of Instant Karma, use it well and make sure you post regularly :)

The gym went well, better than I expected anyway. Half an hour of very light exercise and a half hour of advice and "getting to know". Together with one other guy we are acting as guinea pigs for a trial the leisure centre is running with my local surgery.
Something I would not have entertained a year or so ago so quite a big thing for me.

R and I took a drive down to Exeter as predicted but couldn't find anything within budget so being that it was such a beautiful day headed on down to Dawlish along the Exe Estuary road, past Powderham Castle and through Starcross.
Stopped at various places along the way to take some pics and had a thoroughly enjoyable trip.

It's been a wonderful day, best for a long time but I am suffering a bit now. Will post some pics ASAP.

Thanks Kippy for the download, appreciated.

Glad to see you back Suze :)

Good you got your power back Chesso, wouldn't want to be without that tonight, -6C and still dropping.

Apologies if I've missed anything, wanted to post a hello before people's bedtimes :) xx

uh hello people. i shall endeavour to get to bed earlier tonight. my brains just refused to shut down till 5am this morning.

running a bath now.

tomorrow have to nip into Argos to get a new Cookworks rice cooker (£9.99) to replace our 9 year old Kenwood one (which i am donating to my OAP friend). get there when they open at 9am then get to work for 9.30am usual time. busy busy lots to catch up with my team and workload updates etc.

sometime during the day i must remember to get to Tesco to get the Domestos 15p deal.

then in the evening, am meeting a friend (NYE party hostess' neighbour) to go watch the Ian Drury film 'Sex Drugs and Rock & Roll' at Greenwich. not my first choice (the other being 'Up in the Air' with George Clooney) but we'll see as he has to come from afar. the OH is busy working late the next two days.

have a dinner on Thursday at K's (she's vegetarian so I will have to eat a bit beforehand), catch up and exchange pressies.

hope everyone is falling asleep too, into a good bedtime.

grrr ... still not blinking. out of boredom i have made a miso soup, had some nougat, completed loads of boring surveys.

anyways ...
what boring news can i bring to the table ...
hmm oh i bought the lowe pro holster bag, cheapest was ordering through the HK company for the grand total incl tax handling £28-ish. argos would have cost £33-ish. hope it arrives soon. am looking at those umbrellas and trying to make better use of work's flash gun, the canon 430ex which doesnt seem to have a remote cord, how strange.

Morning all.
White here, but with hail not snow - treacherous and we have weather warnings for the next 36 hours so far. g/f is supposed to be (as she has been persuaded against going so far!) returning to uni on Wed but I think that will have to be postponed. No point in taking unecessary risks.

Also 'No point in taking unecessary risks' with knees after surgery. Like thej says with his op - get it better and then it won't need to be done again. I'm fine with boredom, in that I just don't get bored, whther I'm busy or not. There's always reading and sorting! Hope the pain is lessening though.
Blues at returning to work is much more up my street. I couldn't ever get to sleep the night before going back.

Looks like you had a day and a half hottoshop! I'm very pleased to see that the gym went well and then a day out with lots of great pics.I have bookmarked the Exe Estuary trail in my Days Out folder hottoshop and it certainly looks worth a foray in the balmy days of summer!
I noticed in the things to be accomplished:
•Vandalised Information boards to be replaced
What a sad state of things.

The Drury biopic got a good write up I saw the other day kippy. I be interested, as well, to know what you think. Good luck with Argos!

A perfectly normal person is rare in our civilization - Karen Horney

I have no idea what this means. 'Our civilisation'? Normal to a biologist is the middle of a normal curve, so not rare at all.
1933 - In San Francisco, construction began on the Golden Gate Bridge, a suspension bridge that once boasted the longest main span in the world and that has been celebrated for the magnificence of its setting
.
I think we agree with that don't we Suze? Can't your hubby occupy himself doing something associated with your trip?

Have a good day all. xx

Wow,i see you're getting a taste of our summer down there . All joking aside,be careful if you're out and about.

Agreed, it's a skate park out there tonight.

Snowman gratefully received Hotto, cheers .Must have taken you ages to build that one.

Steady now ! You've no idea how cold my dainty fingers were after sculpturing that.

Had a look at Chesso's photo,i'd guess Boris - left :whistling:,Chesso - middle and Condorman - right. At first i thought it was an impression of "The Monkees" but then i thought no,they're just having a cuddle as they walk,Poirot i'm not .

haha @ The Monkees, I didn't realise you were that old thej !?

I still can't fathom it out, I think they were doing a Strictly Fred and Ginger routine ??

No work here today, don't think there will be this week, way too cold and snowy.

Time to get all those inside jobs done that you've been putting off for the last 9 months :whistling:

Hmm just watching the weather now and it's not good, cancel the ark and start on a rather large sleigh I think.

just got back, folks. saw the Ian Drury biopic film. My friend and I both thought the film was well made. Character-driven story and the actor playing ID was good in it. You start off with thinking oh another poser/w-4-letter, but then you end up sympathising with why he's like that. The graphic direction style (layering, hand-written credit – Peter Blake style – by the way I just heard of him the 1st time courtesy of my knowledgeable friend). The editing with montages worked well, and fluid cutaways, showed the influences of that era without glossing it over. The titles could become a music video. I was lucky my friend who is older, knows who he is, and that he was celebrated with Peter Greenaway and Peter Blake RA to be at Walthamstow College of Arts.

if you are watching the film, look out for the UN year of Disability part in the 2nd half. I thought he had a valid point!

yay to the jeans foldup hem. and the 2-bad-haircuts-in-1.

-------------
it's snowing a flurry and a layer of coated sidewalks. My friend was being a gentleman and wanted to go on the bus with me till i got home, then make his way by bus back to his! Crazy! Anyways we compromised by him waiting with me at the bus stop, for more than 30 mins! Frozen bodies were carted away as we speak ...

Just seen the forecast for down your way Hotto,20cm or more they reckon :w00t:.Forget the sleigh, get cracking on the snowplough.

I think you may be right, scary.

Big Brother's a big no no here, especially the celebrity one.

Have to admit I usually get caught up in it, I find the human interaction thing quite interesting. Not sure about this lot though.
All finishes this year anyway, no more so they say.

The man used to be one of my faves. I've seen the trailer for this film and made a mental note to avoid, not sure why although it probably has something to do with not wanting to see one's idols stripped bare.

Ian Dury, always a reason to be cheerful in my book :)

Hi Kippy :)
Saw this book for you ??
#26
Is it Drury or Dury? (pronounced Jury, but he had a big lip forming the words so I wasn't sure) :giggle:

Thanks for the book suggestion. Have to get through a few here.

Glad to be home for rest of the week. Might go take photos! Have another dim sum lunch this Saturday with a whole group of people but it is predicted to snow 10cm. Err ...

Just looked out the window, everywhere's covered! Merry Christmas.

so it's Ian Dury then.

it was bitterly cold today though.

Dury here as well.

I think we watched the first two series of BB but gave up after that, lack of "ordinary people" i think was the reason.

Understandable, I have always questioned myself as it's a tad out of character and hypocritical as usually these type of shows infuriate me.
I suppose my respect for Orwell and 1984 may have been a factor as well ??

Kippy,i heard on the radio earlier that the world was going end as it was snowing in London :-D.

Many a true word....................

Can't sleep, work and the worry of getting there on my mind all night long ............

No medals are given nowadays for worrying about work Suze. Blunt but honest :)

The Shopping Park where I work has a fair few shops - the usual, Next, Bhs, Boots, Thomas Cook, WHSmith, Asda, Sports Soccer, Dorothy Perkins etc, etc........... yesterday all where shut except for us (the smallest on the park) and Tesco (the largest and 24hours) head office instructed us to stay open until closing at 8pm even if only 2 memebers of staff present. This really doesn't surprise me as I remember anout 7 years ago we had no electric and had to show customers around with a torch each and stand shining the torch on the card whilst they read it ! Then tot up there purchases on a calculator and write it all down !

Your company sound like a first class bunch of pratts Suze. Having worked in retail for most of my life they actually make my Top 10 of Companies to NOT work for.

We where very worried about our K, our eldest last night as she left work early at 3.50pm and didn't get home until 7.30 her journey usually only takes 20-30 minutes. Thank God for mobile phones, she said being able to keep in touch with us and N kept her going.

The best thing about mobiles in my opinion.

Thanks for the tip off about the book Hotto, have just ordered now whilst the house is quiet so will be a nice surprise for my fed up Hubby. Managed to get 10%off but couldn't find a free p & p anywhere, also went through quidco. So, thanks again, you're a star !

Glad to help Suze, I hope he likes it when it comes.

Impresive snowmen there Hotto, strange footprints Chesso !

Thanks Suze and yes , our chesso posed a interesting pic didn't she !!

So, some quality time off for you thej, bet your little one is enjoying the snow, my two are now past that stage and just moan about it !

Hope the iffy feeling has past Hotto and you are feeling better. Never been a fan of BB myself celebrity or otherwise. Sorry.

Personal choice Suze, thank goodness we are all a little different eh.
I was just a bit overtired I think Suze. Had a rest and watched some TV dozed off , woke up, dozed off etc etc and this morning not too bad thanks.

Just having a bit of brekkie here's the quote for today-

The greater part of our happiness or misery depends on our disposition and not on our circumstances - Martha Washington

Tripe MS Washington, utter tripe. Go out and learn about the real world. :x

and take a break -

A Father took his little girl to see a new litter of puppies. When they got home, the girl exclaimed to her Mother, " Mummy, we saw two girl puppies and two boy puppies ! "

" How could you tell ? " asked the Mother.

" Daddy picked them up and looked underneath. It's printed on the bottom ! "

Still snowing and still settling, time to hibernate methinks !!

School's out and J and 6 friends have decide to go over the local park and snowball fight etc. Like an idiot I've invited them all back for beefburgers, hot dogs and chips.
6 damp 16 year olds should prove fun I guess, maybe I'll serve the grub up in the Taverna !!

I guess we have about 5-7 inches and more in places as the wind has got up. View from the back doorstep.
