If you put the number in here, if it's listed they it will tell you where the call came from

Maybe i should change my number?

Worst thing is i was expecting a call, so rushed to pick it up.

Apparently if they say they are not selling things it's ok:roll:

The only way to stop it for a while is change your number but as i have found when you buy things on the internet and you put your number down they sell your number on.

lol

i remember when the OH answer a call from one of those he just said f off and the guy rang back and said
"you do know these calls are recorded dont you?"

OH said so f ing what rewind it and play it back saves me having to tell you again - put the phone down and the same guy rang back again
he said

"im going to report you to my supervisor, i dont have to put up with that sort of abuse"

oh how i laughed when the OH screamed down the phone @ him

all i do now is leave the phone on the side or if i can be bothered wind them up, tis well funny

The phone preference thing only blocks companies registered in the UK it won't stop calls from foreign call centres

>was asking for someone else in the house for a survey, and i said he was out at work so go away.

You are under no obligation to tell ANYONE on the phone who is in our out of your house.

That is your personal business and nothing to do with them.

Unfortunately there are so many scam artists and con people (and burglars) around you are best telling people on the phone NOTHING about who lives in the house, or when you are in and out and so on.

Treat EVERY cold caller as a potential con artist.

Yeah was getting late night phone calls from a private number, when i picked up no answer. Could have easily been a burglar checking if anyone was in or not.

Maybe i could set up a verfication question, something that only a legitimate caller would know. Like what is my nickname or similar. Once they answer that correctly the call is actually put through, otherwise they gut a rude message similar to the ones i got.

Its absolutely rude, I'm sure you'll complain to the relevant authorities and rightly so.

Its equally rude when people abuse telesales callers who do their job what their paid for. :) Caller preference is a good option. Where I used to work, international numbers come as "Internat" in the phone display and we don't take the call unless we're expecting one.

we are always giving out more information than we need to to all sorts of places, i am mid way through filling in a written paper insurance form thats asks for my mothers maiden name, why?, national insurance number, why?
and once that info is out there it gets sold on and on and on
after doing comps for about 2 months my junk mail and junk email is staggering:w00t:
the postman hates me, and i ticked all the right boxes:w00t:

got some sympathy with that viewpoint: brother in law did cold calling via phone cos he was skiint, dont shoot messenger etc
but some wont just give up when you say thanks but no thanks

A woman phoned in to speak to the doctor on our local radio.

She said she was suffering from double incontinence.

He asked where she was ringing from.

She replied, "From the waist down!"

Oh yeah, some do. I just say, Sorry I don't need the product. Thanks, and if they still carry on, Sorry I've got to go, or I'm going to hang up now. Thanks for calling and hang up.:)

tell them you rent your house they dont want to talk to you then. or that your husband sorts everything out and you dont know.
#24
Funny you should mention this...I had a cold call yesterday from the far east.

The guy asked if Mr. B was in the house (me) and I thought, "i've got 10 minutes to kill, lets have some fun." I replied to the guy that i would be a minute while i fetched him...

I loaded this: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/97003

...And suddenly my Asian friend was asking questions to Arnie about the state of my health insurance. My girlfriend had to cover her face with a pillow and bellow laughter into it after hearing the call on loudspeaker.

"GET TO THA CHOPPAAAAA"
