Dating site recommendations.

I've been single after a long term relationship for a few months now and feel the time is right to try and find someone to share my life with again.

The trouble is I live with my 11 year old son, so clubbing and pubs are not my regular hang out (and being 35, they all tend to be full of yougsters anyway).

I've signed up with Plentyoffish.com which seems like a very good site, but even though I've made a big effort with my profile, I don't seem to be getting a lot of response.

I think having my son living with me puts a lot of women off.

Can anyone recommend some other sites? I used to be on yahoo personals when that was free years ago, but that's changed now. Or is social networking sites like faceparty or facepic the way to go?

I don't mind if there is a small fee for using a site as long as it's not a ridiculous ammount.

Not sure if this is a random and miscelaneous post or should be in Deal Requests... lol, but since this is the main site I spend my time on, I thought I would ask on here.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Just becareful, the internet is a smoke screen, not always what you 'see' is what you find.

Poeple like Lou seem very nice but her mate Tracy might tag along - extra baggage - lol :giggle:

agreed tho, the internet can be a great way to meet but also gives both parties involved the opportunity to sugar coat alot of truths, however i guess that could be done in a pub also!, oh forever the cynic me! no wonder im single!

I see my thread has been hijacked by pervs... lol

Thanks forthe [email protected] tip, I'll try that out later.

I'm not new to internet dating, met my last girlfriend online and that lasted 6 years, It;s just that now my circumstances have changed and I have my son living with me full time. And obviously I'm 6 years older.

A 35 year old with an 11 year old son, isn't every womans ideal partner.

I've had plenty of people viewing my profile on Plenty of Fish, but guess something is putting them off messaging me or even replying to my messages.

I suppose when you are starting out looking for someone, just a little response give you a bit of confidence to carry on looking.

good luck :)

i know what you mean btw, its not easy when you have kids, keep trying, you will get there in the end :)

Do you have to put a mugshot on that site??...if it were me I think I'd avoid the mugshot as many women will simply judge a book by the cover..and don't get me wrong you may well have Brad Pitt looks...you probably found on your last success on internet dating that it's best to get to know someone first and then exchange mugshots ...because if you have built up a liking for each other's personality by email ,and maybe ont phone as well, then looks may not play such a big part....just my thoughts.

Have you thought about attending singles nights..we have quite a few in our area ...my neighbours met at such a venue..he was about the same age as you ..a widower with 2 children...his new partner is a divorcee with twin teenage daughters....it seems to have worked out rather well.

Don't use your standard personal email address when using dating sites set one up especially for dating as you could end up with a bunny boiler that you cant get rid of then you would have to change your email afterwards.

Good luck and happy hunting.

internet dating sites... absolute tosh..

I have heard more bad press from a lot of my single friends than good, the likelihood of of finding true love, about the same as stumbling across the lottery numbers in your cutlery draw!! or even someone enjoying your badly written gramaticaly incorrect post :whistling:

Best to get out there in the real world and find real people , and no membership fees either and you dont have to try to find a picture that is a true representation of yourself, rather than borrow your good looking friends picture :giggle:

The internet isnt all bad :p

Ive never been on a dating site (with a face like this i dont need to! my inbox would be full in record time! *joke* and, i meant a good looking face before anyone says a bad looking one :p)

But, sometimes, its possible to stumble across people, when your not even looking, on forums etc, trust me i know :-D

Good luck :)

And just to add to that, when i had car door problems, someone diverted me to my actual car make forum - ive made a few friends now, and even headed to hinckley last night for a few beers (them, not me, i had to do the 75 miles back home!)
Made some friends on other forums aswell, who ive also met in real life :)

The internet is a magical place :)

And, i should be meeting a lady from here in a week who has kids, and leaves over the road(ish) from me, talk about small world!

Your mileage may vary, I've had quite a few recommendations for dating sites from various friends who are now happily married to someone they met through an online dating site. I'm not a big pub person, more of an outdoor person so I'd say it's a lottery trying to find the right person who just happens to be climbing the same hill in the real world.

Glad to see my post is still going strong.

Yes, I'd like to get out in the real world and meet someone, but when you have very little free time it's very difficult.

I've never been one for approaching strangers in pubs and clubs and you're just as likely to meet a bunny boiler in the local pub (possibly more likely).

The internet allows you to find people local to yuorself that are also looking to meet someone, and it's quite easy to pick out someone that seems nice, this at least gives you a starting point.

I have had 3 major relationships in my life, the last 2 I met online were fantastic relationships with really nice people.

The one that I met in real life, turned out to be a psycho that has basically left my life in ruins. And the problems she (my ex-wife) left with with are the reasons why my recent realtionship ended.

So you will forgive me if I am slightly biased towards thinking that the nicer people can be met online.

is it... magical is not a word that springs to mind, I am sure a few of the parents who`s children have stumbled upon the groomers and the like might think magical is not a great choice of words

www.faceparty.com - Free website where you can browse profiles and upload a profile all FREE. I met my fiance on there and that was 3 years ago and we still together :p

I'm a strong believer in internet dating. I'm married now but before I met my husband I used to go on [email protected] regularly and, whilst I didn't meet the man of my dreams on there, I made some lasting friendships with some very genuine people. My friend used Match.com and met her boyfriend 7 years ago and it's still going strong (they lived 100 or so miles away from each other), and another close friend met her boyfriend a year ago on Dating Direct (although I think this is expensive from what I hear). As for me, I met my other half at the local nightclub lol!
