Phone up local tourist information centres and see if they have any leaflets for family day out places, as they will probably have some good suggestions and often they have discount vouchers inside the leaflets you can cut out, and the TIC will send them for free.

Or even Lego land @ the Trafford (i know its not the same)

Chester Zoo ?

There are hardly ever any vouchers for flamingo land, we go every year, it's better than it was 5 year ago, but it's still dirty and expensive for what it is IMO.

Legoland Trafford is not worth it accord to reviews, we are going to Windsor in august...expensive but well there's not too much I can do, I want to go so I'll have to pay.

We find Alton towers decent value wise, we are in Middlesbrough, so it's a much bigger drive but bigger and prices are slightly better as there are usually vouchers and it costs less once inside for food etc.

was looking at this Paulton's Park ( inc Peppa Pig World ) for later in the year.. i know it's a little far ( near salisbury ) but if you fancied pushing the boat out you can get good deals for a 2 day park stay stopping overnight in a local hotel.....

We did Lego Land Windsor last year staying 2 nights in the sheraton skyline opposite heathrow and for 2 adults 2 kids it was £220 inc 2 days in the park.... was really good and Very warm kids loved it almost as much as me :)

locally ( Leeds ) there's always Lightwater Valley / Flamingoland 2 very good days out

Where do you live?

Always discounts knocking about... check out your local Tourist Office, and even Motorway Services have attraction leaflets in stands in the foyer

There is a deal on the legoland website which gives you free entry for kids but you have to stay a night, looks like quite a good deal as you get passes for 2 days:
Book your 2011 LEGOLAND® Holiday. Kids Go FREE on selected week and weekend dates throughout the year and you will even get a 2nd day FREE with all breaks. Prices start from just £132 for 2 adults and 2 children including 2 days Park entry, an overnight stay in a family friendly hotel and breakfast.

or this
http://www.whattodowiththekids.co.uk/vouchers/2011/legoland.htm
which gives free child entry with full paying adult so would only cover all your kids if there were 4 adults

I found lego land a total disappointment....not in the same league as Alton Towers or Thorpe park or even chessington world of adventure....Lego-land is a 3dr division theme park even by UK standards....I'd do some more research before committing yourself to that sort of expense and distance.

Can someone tell me what is actually good about it as I most of missed that bit.

Do you collect Clubcard vouchers?
If you do convert what you have into deals for a day out.

I do this but only to OakWood or Folly Farm due to the age of my kids. Would love to do Alton Towers, but it would be wasted due to the height of my kids.

picnic in the park, take a football and a frisbee!

Chester Zoo is brill, but take your own food!!!!!
Also I saw some offers in our local travel agents for legoland, so may be worth having a look.

Yep - Tesco Clubcard vouchers make a huge difference.

OP - If you're not that far from Flamingo Land what about Lightwater Valley near Ripon.....family ticket for 6 is £108 and you might be able to get this cheaper if you buy in advance on the website.

Alternatively just take them to the coast Whitby/Scarborough/Filey
