Now I recall that these mean something, but always thought you needed to refer to your motherboards manual or website for more info. Well I have the manual and no beep codes in it, an internet search for foxconn P4M800P7MB-RS2H (the motherboard) hasn't yielded much either.

Any more idea's or is should I be trawling HUKD for a new base unit...

Thanks

if you cant find what the code means, then try out the RAM as a possible cause. If you have more than 1 stick then take out all but 1 and boot it up. if it still beeps the same, change the ram stick and re-try. At least that way u can discount the ram if it still beeps for them all.

Video doesn't come up? Might be the video card or motherboard fried (From experience but no expert.)

Google your motherboard mentioning the number of beeps (eg Asus K4 3beeps) and you should get something advising you of whats wrong. Thats why it beeps to make it easier to locate the problem.
Good luck

You could try and reseat as much as possible first, memory - GPU etc

Worth a shot.

Take the gfx card out switch to on board graphics see if that works

else

Re-seat the RAM or try one at a time.

Could be anything from CPU to GPU to memory or power pack. Need more information on the beeps.

Always have a good smell round the computer if you have opened it to get the motherboard model, for any burny smells.

Check all cables that they haven't come loose.

Also check the fans.

If you have two memory sticks in.

Try one or the other in the first slot on its own.

I'm guessing you have had a look in due to the motherboard code given.

The beep code depends on what bios your pc is running ,

Ok, a quick go at it this morning to see if it was anything obvious I could pick up today. So far:-

I got the motherboard wrong, there's a large lable with a number, apparently this is on most foxconn boards and is not the model.... Correct model is P9657AA-8EKRS2H

Beeps. The sequence is 3 long pause 1-1.5-1 then a repeating .5 By .5 I mean a short beep, it almost sounds cut off?

Googled beep codes and foxconn. Nothing specific comes up, the nearest with this kind of code seems to be phoenix and this indicates I/O port error.

Tried the memory swap, took out second module, booted, replaced 1st module with second, booted. No change in beep code.

Removed Graphics card. Complete change in code, just a single short beep. As far as I can tell, this board has no on-board graphics (at least there's no other monitor ports on the case). Reseated graphics. 3.1 etc code returned.

Misc... Fans working (including the one built into the graphics card). No smells(lots of dust), no obvious loose cables / wires. PC about 3 years old and fairly stable.

Thanks for the tips, rep on its way to all.

Sounds like a dead graphics card ,A single beep means the PC is posting ok without it,The phoenix beep code for no graphics card is 3-3-4, It doesnt matter how long the beeps are just how many there are between pauses, Do you have have a card you can borrow to try ?.Also does your card have a extra power connector ?.if it does are you sure your PSU is supplying enough power ?.

I think it's the chief suspect at this point...

I've a feeling it does need extra power as I recall when I bought it that it was a fairly chunky fella. (like I say, it has a in built fan, can you run one of them off the standard power supplied via th motherboard?)

No immediate thoughts on where I'll source a spare card, but I've a PC or 2 knocking around, looks like my weekends set...

So, removed graphics card. the only card I have knocking around is uses a different interface, but booted up anyway just to see. Last time I did this, I was going through a series of things so switched off fairly quickly. This time I just left it and sure enough eventually windows played it's little song!

So I think it's the graphics card dead to rights on this one. Any thoughts on a decent card preferably offline so I can pick it up this weekend?

you wont find a decent graphics card offline without paying over the odds,You also need to decide how much you want to spend and see what PSU you have,

I suspect your computer may be faulty in some way
