I get the feeling this comment probably isn't far off the intention.

Just couldnt help myself in the end...

http://dotd.garyrip.com (work in progress)

This may or may not work, if its not working then feel free to drop a post on here.

All suggestions are welcome and considered! +rep to anything I use.

Things on my list...
1. Sort eBay/firebox so it shows when item is sold out (need to wait for an item to sell out to fix this).
2. Show item pictures.
3. Update theme.

Hi Gary,
Good skills mate! Do these sites all have a rss feed? you might be able to source data from there too...
Which leads to my suggestion - any chance turning your stream into a rss?? :)

hmmm, pretty good, but i dont think this would fit in with what im doing... the deals on that site dont change enough, and before you should you would just look before you go shopping, where as this is more of an impulse buy where deals change every day.

Thats just the homepage... im not sure those deals change daily, and even if they did they display it as a picture not text so it would be unworkable!

The thing i need to consider is that if the site im scraping is down then it will feed an error into the RSS feed... i would need to work on validation a bit more so that erroneous RSS items are not created.

Are you scraping and then storing in a table - or just outputting straight to screen?

If you are doing it to table, if you were to use the code i sent before, just amend the query in getDetails() to ensure only valid results are queried from the table where you store the details and past to the rss table for the feed... (maybe when scraping, add a "toRSS" boolean field if there is data in all the fields??)

straight to screen... with the intention to mySQL if its popular enough...

as with all these things i do, i make them for myself but make them available to others. i think what i will end up doing is putting it into mySQL but that will make it less up to date as i will only be able to check once every 5 minutes for example.
