Amazon are much worse.

I've ordered items that could be in a small parcel bag, but instead turned up in a fairly large box.

this happens all the time when ordering from Amazon. Usually items can share a box, but come in 2 boxes that are still to large for the item I've ordered.

more to the point, how much of the **** will you be returning?

because you know you will be.

what kind of impact do you thing that will be having on the environment, considering the items will have been sent half way around the world, then on to you, so you can try them out, return them, where the end up unsalable and in the bin or at a clearance outlet for pennies in the pound?

ordered a electric screw driver from Amazon last week came in the same packaging as a dvd would, metal container all smashed in, but a Gillette razor came in a massive box with padding. hopeless.

Hard work starting a thread on here, always the same dingbats who whinge hardest about anything who don't start any themselves, have a look! (_;)

Don't let them put you off, if noone starts threads this will be a boring poop-hole.

Nearly all retailers seem do it like that (individually), I guess it's the easiest if not most efficent, however, The UK uses over 5 million tonnes of plastic each year. It is increasingly being used in packaging, construction and automotive markets.. The largest consumer by far is manufacturing not retail.

I had 4 kids uniform ordered online from sainsburys for click and collect and everything came in one huge bag that the poor sales assistant could barely lift. so I guess well done to sainsburys for using less plastic.

next time go to the shop, try on what you want, buy it and be proud you didn't waste a lot of plastic or have to return a shed load of items.

It is down to authoritarian managers or to common sense of individual at coal face; whether one would be punished for using common sense versus following management process exactly. Environmental impact is secondary to business need and packing processes written as rule books (and rules to be followed).

The best deals are always end of range and are very rarely fully stocked in the stores.

40 plastic bags...what will the dolphins think?

OK, so the OP ordered a lot of stuff.
They were appalled enough by the ridiculous packaging to start a thread.
Their reasons for doing so are, frankly, no-one else's concern. They may be buying multiple sizes to accommodate variation in sizes and they may have a disability that prevents them going into the store which probably won't have the same range of stock anyhow.
No need for rudeness...

Maybe they were unable to? (Lots of reasons why). I order online as I'm ill and it makes life so much easier.

I swear some people comment WITHOUT engaging their brain. Maybe the person ordered because they have a disability or other significant problem getting to the shop... Empathy is a challenge for too many people :|

My thoughts exactly! x

Common sense is lacking these days, all could have gone into a big card board box so the customer could reuse it to send unwanted items back or recycled it..........and I bet inside those black bags is a clear plastic bag too!

while i agree it could be a situation like that, I do not make assumptions when information is not given. It could be just as likely that the person is perfectly able, lives next door to the debenhams and is completely lazy. Please do not make assumptions just to take the moral high ground.

Was it delivered by MyHermes?!
If so then it will have been a good day for your local courier as they're self employed and get paid per parcel (between 45p and 65p per parcel).

That's the silver lining!
