Debit card fraud

So I login to my hotmail account today and see a paypal reciept saying I paid £71 for x Blitzkrieg: Burning Horizon, 1 x 100 000 Blue Coins from a website called Gamersgate AB.

I check my ebay, paypal, online banking accounts and they all seem fine and the passwords have not changed.

So how were my card details taken?

It will most likely be a spam email. Have you compared it to previous emails you received from paypal when you actually bought stuff?

yeh, could be a phishing email, wanting you to click somewhere?

keep an eye on the accounts and change your passwords on all of them straight away just in case.

Strange.. maybe:
- The debit hasn't shown up on your online statement yet?
- It's a phishing email - the links in the email may take you to a Paypal phishing page?
- You've received the email by mistake. Does the email list your card as the payment method or an address for the goods to be shipped to?

Call the bank and ebay and alert them to this as its fraud if you didn't order them.

And you said 'I check my ebay, paypal, online banking accounts and they all seem fine' how can a £71 charge of your account be fine if you didn't order it? Contact bank/paypal ASAP before more items are purchased

This happened to me and paypal would not stop the transaction even though I told them it was fraudulent and I even had the address of the person concerned as they had added it to my paypal account. Paypal won't do anything until the transaction is completed, i.e. you have lost your money (and then have to go through the palaver of claiming it back).

The only way I stopped it was cancelling my debit card and telling the bank not to allow any payments to paypal. If I was you I would do it quickly before the payment goes through.

I don't have any cards/accounts on my paypal account anymore. I just put it on when I want to buy something and then take it straight off again.

I meant the accounts were fine as in no details were changed, of course its not fine to take my money. So I opened up an unauthorized transcription dispute with paypal. I just need to wait now.

Would I still need to cancel my debit card?

Log into paypal, click on the transaction. Should be an option somewhere saying that I didnt authorise this transaction. And process/payment will be reversed - Paypal will look into it and youll have your money back

Is this a new Paypal thing, that they will stop a transaction before it has gone through?

Because when it happened to me in August they just kept saying that all transactions were 'merchant-led', and unless the shop cancelled the purchase there was nothing I could do until the process was complete.
