DECENT BBQ.....any ideas? Which do you have?

Normally have charcoal, but not too fussed if gas or not. (if the gas gets rid of the smoke that stings my eyes, than i would prefer this!)

Ideally one on offer would be a bonus, but not got a set budget as such.

What do you recommend please?

THIS IS NOT A DEAL REQUEST, I WANT ADVICE :)

Weber charcoal. Brilliant

You need to get some 1000 year old snake wood. The tree must have been chopped down by the hands of a virgin/s. Your meat would taste like Gods loins.

A BBQ has to be charcoal. Otherwise you might as well use an oven. IMO. oO

The gas ones that come with lava rocks create the same effect. If you're after less smoke buy a gas one with gas burners and no coals but you don't get the same bbq taste....

Looking into suggestions so far...

Gas ones just don't taste the same, tried 2, both with and without lava rocks...it just don't taste right

Intact last year, i actually removed the gas bits from ours, lined the bottom with a metal sheet and just used as a standard BBQ, worked a treat

oven, bbq, microwave, camping stove, etc it doesn't really matter what cooking source is used, the wife can burn it quite well on any of them :)

Webber kettles are the dogs.

really well made, hinged grates, easy to adjust temperature, can be used for smoking, come with an ash can. top notch bits of kit!

Have to admit i am tempted by one of these, not sure i can justify the price, i tend to buy one every year for around £40 and throw it at the end of the summer, trying to decide if this is a better investment

Another Weber owner .... of the above.

Fantastic piece of kit. Will last years and years if looked after.

The bonus is you can cook joints of meat on it, we do this more than bbq food these days.
Just stick a chicken, joint of pork or beef or whatever, leave it cooking, no mess in the kitchen oven and you get the lovely taste of the bbq.

My favourite is the Beer Can Chicken .......... Absolutely yummy !!!

Ah right. I initially thought that the recipe incorporated the liquid for flavour when in fact it's really the can that's used to keep the chicken upright.

What i do and the main reason for the can is for moisture.

Open a 330ml can of anything really, doesn't have to be beer, drink a quarter of the can or throw it away then insert chicken on top of it, sit upright in the weber, put the lid on and hey presto, approx hour and a half later, beer can chicken can be served.

So any deals on a Weber then or similar? Have my credit card out waiting to buy one. Also where's the best place to buy charcoal in bulk?

Not sure on deals at the moment but in regard to the charcoal, you will need briquettes if you are going to use it as an oven, as you have to build them up on the sides.

You can use normal charcoal for normal bbq food.

The last 2 years, at the end of summer, sainsburys sell all their bbq stuff really cheap, have bought 20 bags of briquettes each time, along with loads of firelighter packs.

The bags of briquettes were £1 and a pack of 30 firelighters were 10p !!!! Stock up everytime.

That is the beauty of the weber, you can cook a joint in it whatever the weather or time of year.

I want to try this.

I've been watching a few American cooking programs where they have smokers and it always makes my mouth water.

Bought the Ivory Weber last night at B&Q £150, I know not cheap and there are other fine looking things for the same money and less, from experience I know that you get what you pay for. Reviews are excellent for these Weber jobs. Beer can chicken on Sunday. Good thread, cant beat a BBQ and a few beers in the garden

£108 is a bargain compared to the £150 of B&Q. I seen that offer but wanted to get it for the weekend and done a panic buy :D As I say though, rain, sleet or snow I will be out with the beer can chicken, beers, and let the kids wreck the garden.

Cheers for link smithy

Will post some pics up after
