I'm doing the second year of my degree and its been run so poorly this year that the whole group are wanting to complain and try to recoup some of the fees. Now the university won't do anything, so I wonder if anyone knows who should be contacted in regards to this?

Thanks

which uni? i would have thought the uni's Principal would be first port of call followed by Governors if the uni themselves won't do anything.

try going to the uni's website and look for complaints procedure and see what it says. Also, ask the Principal's secretary/PA for complaints procedure etc. Somewhere on there it should say contact Principal and then Governors.

Stamford, we have tried them and they just brush us off but we just keep getting treated poorly so just wondering who else we can contact, or even if we just lodge a complain about them so its noted in the system, not necessarily for money.

I can't really offer any advice but this is an interesting subject. Care to share what's gone on on the course to make it so bad? Lecturers not turning up etc?

I'm sure there is usually a complaints procedure in place for situations like this in most universities. If the school are being unresponsive, you should contact the Academic Services (or similar) who will be able to give you more advice.
I find it highly unlikely you will get your fees back, but if all of you make a complaint together who knows..
Also there is the Student Satisfaction Survey which will be open again next year, its a governmentish run thing so there should be "censorship" of your views. This should push the course down the league tables.

Thats a given, although we have 2 exams next week, one we have had full preperation for and feel confident about and the other we have had no preperation for at all as the lecturer is away.

We didn't start one module until November even though we started early September because they didn't have a lecturer for us, we were told that this time would be made up but never was.

Assignments werent given out at the right time, hence having to complete them in a shorter time than should have been.

Thats just a few recent ones, still other things but too much to type

I'm having a similar problem with the University of Ulster and as I work there it is very difficult as I am truly ashamed to admit to my classmates that I work in the place. All universities will have a complaints proceedure and the main thing is use it. Do not be fobbed off.

The procedure is:
Speak to your lecturer
If this doesn't help within 5 days of the main problem speak to the Course director
If the problem still exists fill in step one of the complaints procedure form which will go to the Dean of the faculty and they must reply wihin an alloted time
There is a 2nd form which can be filled in if the problem is still not dealt with to your satisfaction. It will go to the Provost and possiby the Vice Chancellor and I can guarantee that it will be taken very seriously indeed. Each university will have its own 'Court' and it is run properly and decisions are legally binding and you can hve representation, You should also speak to the head of the students union as they are funded to attend and fight on your behalf.

I for one am behind you all the way. The sub standard, unprofessional teaching in universities must stop. We are being cheated!!!
