Deleted Deals - Why

I am wondering why a recent deal I posted for a Wii (£134.99) at HMV was deleted. I am cool with a deal being deleted if it breaks the rules but sometimes I am surprised as to why they are deleted and have no idea what I have done wrong.

I think all up, I have had 4 or 5 deals deleted without explanation, and another two where the deleter was courteous enough to explain why via a private message.

Honestly I have no idea why these 4 or 5 unexplained deletions occurred and I think this might be the problem - I keep doing the same mistake.

What I am asking is that if a deal is posted, please could a mod be kind enough to at least post a quick explanation to the poster of the bad deal. I am sure that others would appreciate the courtesy as generally people genuinely have good intentions to help the community and it feels a bit cold to not send a polite template written explanation upon a deletion.

One of my last deals was for a free £100 of a product and I was amazed that it was removed until a mod explained why and suggested that I post it as a discussion topic (I have not yet). But that message from the mod cleared it all up and resolved the angst.

Mostly deals are member spammed as dupes xxx

Mods often do provide an explanation as and where this is required but sometimes it's just actioned too fast and efficiently for them to be present also.

I don't think you need to feel upset at a deal being removed, it's just one of those things.. if something is good, it'll stay, if not then it's Sparta in Deals so please don't feel this sense of "angst" it happens commonly xx

It was a dupe.

Mods try and PM to explain why, "Normal" members rarely do.
Best to try and learn how to use the advanced search properly. :)

OP,

We always reply to members when a mod closes a deal thread. However if members have spammed as a result of it being a dupe, then we try to get round to a response as soon as time permits.

Thanks for posting though, it's always appreciated.

thanks for the feedback and i think i know why i didn't spot that this one example was a dupe:

I was doing advanced search for company "hmv" and general search for the term "wii" the results pages arent ordered by date and I normally scan the pictures and titles for a match. after a page i could see deals dated from a long time ago, so i assumed it was a new deal.

it's not really angst, it more makes me go "why bother next time" - and that in itself would cause problems with a user content generated site.

I guess what I am asking, is even though a deal might be a common dupe, it would be particularly useful to users/posters for a pm explaining why which would stop the "why bother next time" feeling. a solution could be as simple as when a deal is deleted it asks why using a drop down list and sends a template message to the user.

Don't think you're alone in this "why did i bother" feeling ; I'm sure everyone gets that from time to time.

The search facility is confusing at times, you may find it handy to mess around with it until you're fully confident you can use it efficiently ( you might wanna google to double check yourself ).

I don't think it feasible for every deal that's member spammed to also have an explanation to the OP as a courtesy tho I fully understand why you'd want one.... I just think it's too much to possibly have to cover given how many deals are posted every single day xxx

Thanks for the tip in searching, it has made a massive difference! This post spawned from my newbie mistake of poor searching, but I do stand by my request for a feature (to the webmasters to implement) for the siteops when they delete a post for a quick drop down box to appear with a template reason and message to be sent to the user.

It really is disheartening to think that a deal you thought was good and went to the effort to present to the community just disappears, even when the user was in the wrong.
