Since I haven't said this very often - Thanks for posting this awesome deal Mike.

I'm now very happy with the system. My only remaining complaint is the noise the DVD drive makes for a few minutes when you first put the DVD in, it makes my lawnmower sound quiet! :giggle:

The graphic card issue has now moved to the top of my list of priorities. I would be fitting in my new PSU and X1950 by now if not for the onboard graphic issue my E520 has...I'll have to decide if I should send my 7600GT back and do what I originally planned on doing.

I have to concur with Aion and thank Mike greatly for this deal. This deal was worth every penny! Has anyone with a 7600 and X1950 posted their Windows Experience Indexes yet? Just curios what it would go up to?

Cheers

I'm sure you can get a util to restrict the spin up speed of the drive to make it quieter if you want.

Would you happen to know what program could do that for me? I'd be try and see if it can make my drive more quiet. :)

After installing Coolbits, overclocking Nvidia cards is very simple. How far can you normslly overclock cards without any cooling?

I'll post mine, think the processor was 4.8, that was my lowest score, which is what you get rated on. I'll post a screenie tonight.

Hi chaps

Im having a problem with the inbuilt sound

For some reason even though I have the right cable plugged into the green port on the back I get no sound. the headphone port on the front of the base works but the windows vista mixer just reports an spdif connection?

For some reason it is not recognising my cable when I plug it in

any ideas?

ah ignore me - i have downloaded the latest driver and fixed the problem!

For anyone with Vista, I fixed something today. My disk was constantly thrashing, and making a lot of noise. I disabled the indexing of my files (I never search anyway) and the disk now only does something occasionally :-D

Can't seem to get those download links to work?

The DVD drive noise is only bearable when it stops after awhile. I just tried Red Alert 2 and the noise seems constant, where as it stopped after a few minutes with Generals.

Speaking of Generals, started have all sorts of problems - DircetX and game.dat errors.

I just fixed another problem! During MP3 playback, the song became choppy for about 3 seconds near the end of every song. I googled for a while and found out that you have to go into sound options, playback, SigmaTel audio properties, enhancements and tick disable all enhancements. Worked for me!
#13
Mine was set to that already.

Go to the start menu and type "Index" into the thing at the bottom. Select Indexing Options that will appear. Click Modify and unselect all the places. You can go into advanced if you want and click rebuild to delete the index completely. Close and done!

Hmm, this drive is going for some sort of noise record.

Will any CD/DVD drive work in the E520? They aren't very expensive to buy.

Question about the Intel Matrix Storage RAID setup ..........

I've been messing about reinstalling another version of Vista (ultimate) onto a completely separate 2nd HD.

I've disconnected my Seagate HD and added a second 300Gb Maxtor drive to install vista fresh - i had to disable the RAID option which now makes me wonder is there anypoint in setting up a RAID as the system suggests it can .... anyone tried this ? with the Intel Matrix Storage console (came as part of the Dell config) but not on the drivers disk .

Anyone with a view ? thanks

^ Would this drive fit and work in the E520 without problem?

Also, I'm guessing it doesn't come with the required cable for thst price... What cable would I need to buy?

Hi,

If anyones interested - my 8600GT card brought for £70 no PSU change got a 3DMARK06 score of 4520 - not bad for the money and given the Drivers are fairly new and bound to get better...

that should be fine aion, its a sata. did you change your psu? if not you should have a power connector for the extra drive from the dell psu , if you have changed it you need a power supply sata connection and a data cable sata to connect from drive to mobo .
HTH :-D

blimey e buyer are so slow just got conifmation that my psu has been shipped , paid for it on 20th ! have ordered the x1950pro as well now expect i will get that in a fortnight!!
what do i do to fit the graphics card ?
fit it first then disable onboard? if so from where and drivers i guess are best from ati direct?
#32
Damn! I ordered my PSU on the 20th and it came on the 22nd, ordered the 1950pro on the 21st and it came on the 23rd. Fast as hell for me.

Think you have to disable the onboard and then fit it.

There's usually a 7-10% difference between advertised size and actual size. This is because advertisers work on the fact there are 1000 bytes in a kilobyte (decimal) when there are actually 1024 (binary) so you've got nothing to worry about

Posted in wrong thread initially...

Hey guys.
So pleased with my purchase (with vista premium and 22" monitor upgrade) that I went and bought another one for my girlfriend's dad (no upgrades).

I have noticed a difference between the two though.
They are both usually whisper quiet, however on my computer... whenever I power it on, there is a sudden blast of the fans or dvd drive which is pretty loud and lasts for a second or so.
On the other one (equipped with vista basic) it does not have this initial rev up.

Just wondering if any of you have experienced this issue and whether it is a "feature" of home premium.
If so can it be turned off?
#39
Is it really that annoying? 1 second lol. I notice it too, but...I'm not really too bothered but this 1 second wheeze.
#40
Not incredibly annoying.
Would be better if it didn;t have it.

Just noticed the other pc didn;t have it and was wondering why.
