Hi guys, was looking for advice on my laptop. I bought it last June after it was advertised on hotukdeals as being a good deal. i got the vostro 1000 laptop from the small business dell website.

I have been getting an attention message everytime i start up my laptop telling me I need to replace my battery. The message is now coming up in red, telling me to replace the battery even more urgently!!! I do not take my laptop out and about and only use it sitting in my kitchen - most of the time i have the adapter on it charging it.... wil i still be able to use my laptop with the adapter if i decide NOT to replace the battery?

Also - I have a years warrently - are battery replacements covered under this?

Any advice greatly appreciated!!! :)

You can use the laptop without the battery in if you have the charger connected, although if the charger falls out the system will turn off which is slightly problematic.

Just a heads up for you. take the battery out if you are not charging it up. Just leaving your battery in will in the longterm damage it.

I don't think the batteries are actually covered by the 1 year warranty but I might be wrong, either way I'd kick up a fuss as less than 1 year is unacceptable battery life on a laptop (not fit for purpose). You don't need a working battery but when its completely exhausted your PC will switch off when not connected to the mains - and its pretty easy for the mains cable to become disconnected...

Batteries are covered for 1 year. No need to kick up a fuss, Dell are very good with replacements. If it breaks down within a year, they will swap it out no questions asked.

And normally for the next working day

You'll be ok, its done on the service tag from your laptop, they don't need documents they can see when it was bought

Edit: Jah128 said same, should type faster lol.
