I am not bothered about dedicated graphics, i just want a machine that will stand the test of time and i figure a core i5 would be enough...

It comes to £435.93 including delivery and VAT.

So i guess i want to know, have you used it, was the service good, how did your "certified refurbished model arrive" has anyone used a dell 1564 machnie, how did you rate it?

Thanks in advance

I ordered a Studio 1747 and it arrived basically as new. I did wait nearly 4 weeks for it however, their updates were sketchy, my delivery date was put back 3 times.
But after sales team seemed good, as when it arrived although as good as new I had three tiny marks on the screen, they werent visible when in use, they were the size of a pinhead. I was just reporting it didnt expect anything to come of it.

They asked to to photograph it which was difficult even with my bridge camera, and I said it wasnt dead pixels, but their customer service team said that is the conclusion they reached and they sent an engineer out next day to my home to replace the screen!

Very happy with the laptop though, mine was an i7-720qm + 4gb ddr3 + 500gb + 4650 1gb dedicated +17" LED screen.

Thanks for the input awoodhall2003. I am going to pop into a store to see if i like the "look and feel" of the Dell 1564 as i know the earlier inspirion models felt a little cheap + tacky. So i want to see if this one doesnt. if so... i think i will get it

Had 3 laptops from them over a year. All as new, no problems at all.

I've had two laptops from there, and also know people who have ordered.
I have no complaints, my latop i tracked was originally sent to Germany, and then back, reformatted with UK software and then sent to me. It was all new, and fantastic, i would recomment the outlet, especially considering i saved over £400 on the price.

thanks for all the input guys! Really appreciated. Once i check out the model, i will order it

Yeah thus why I wanted a Studio not an Inspirion...just got that little better feel. My 1747 has a very nice finish on it and the plastic doesnt flex much either. The keyboard is fantastic, I prefer typing on it to my desktop keyboard!

best of luck with it!

I have a dell mini 10v from the outlet

paid 170, saved around 50 quid, and it although said refurbished, i dont believe it was, just excess stock
it was unmarked, windows had never been started (still had to do the first setup) and all the stuff, discs, cables and box showed no sign of being opened

v.happy with what i got, and would look at the outlet again

On the windows thing, their refurbs they restore everything back, thus would seem like windows had never been started. Also new boxes, new packing etc is used.
But as above they really could pass off as new!

just got a Dell 1558 today with Intel i5-430M, 4gb ram, 500gb hddd and 512mb ATI 4570 for £395 inclusive. pretty happy with the new lappy except from taking 10 days to arrive. my experience with Dell CS has been great as well. just ask them to cut all the system test crap and send the replacement part next day.

Sorry for hacking the thread:

I was thinking of the Studio 1747 but don't need a screen as big as the 1747:

14” or 15” screen resolution 1600X900
i5 CPU preferred (is i7 better than i3?)
4GB DDR3
500GB Hard drive
512MB Graphics card
Wireless b/g/n
Integrated web cam
6 Cell Battery life

What model would best suite me? thanks

if you don't mind dell then go for 1558 like I did. go to their refurbished stockroom there're some good deals now and then if you're lucky.

I wouldn't recommend i7 on 1558 though since it'll get unconfortably hot. i3 or i5 will do if you don't need too much power. my i5 scores 6.7 on windows index which is pretty good.

dell outlet have always offered me excellent service, ive had a few machines from them. When i have the money its where i look first. ive had machines that were mint and a couple with very minor marks. They not the quickest tho, as they get sent back round the dell system going through every checkpoint like a new system. but worth the wait for the price, especially when you get the £60 off and free delivery.

I've lost count of the machines I've bought through the Dell Outlet, I'm typing one from there right now (£2,100 machine for £1,300 and shipped within two weeks while those from the main site had a two month delay). Each time the machine has arrived in brand new condition and relatively promptly, even the scratch and dent machine didn't have a single cosmetic mark I could find.

I've seen various theories on better times to watch the outlet but personally I think it's just random, if you're after a machine just check as often as you can and be patient. It can take some time for a good deal to come up but you can get a superb bargain which is worth the wait, some machines have taken me a few weeks which have been worth it.

The funny thing is the last machine I bought was a Studio XPS 16 - I wanted this model for its 1080p RGB LED screen. Ordering from the main site was not only expensive but there was a long delay on the 1080p screens. So I went onto the outlet with my only real requirement being the machine had to have this screen...for two weeks I checked over and over again but the machines with the 1080p screen were way too pricey and they didn't last long either. I got sick of it as there hadn't been any new machines even going on, just the same fairly rubbish 720p models.

A week or two after I powered the desktop up to use it (tend to only use it for high performance apps) and it still had a tab open with my search and there was my ideal machine just sitting there - the 1080p RGB LED screen, C2D 2.8Ghz processor (£650 + VAT option on the main site), blu-ray and even an SSD for good measure all for a surprisingly good price. I snapped it up and I'm typing this post on it right now, I'm so glad I waited as instead of getting a fairly expensive base spec machine for around the same price I got a top of the range one.
