No funnies please.
This is a SERIOUS post.

I may be known for my jokes on HDUK but I also have close association with depression and thought I'd give this site a mention.

Not been going for long so looks like it needs some input but should prove very worthwhile for those in need.

You never know, it could be you one day. (Nooooo, NOT the lottery)

Hope it helps someone.

Yeah, thanks a million. I too suffer from it and I thought I maybe the only one on these forums what with all the fun and banter. Thanks for posting what is a very serious issue to those who suffer this horrible illness and for those who have to live with us. Rep added.

Terrible, it is so common unfortunately, it is about time depression was treated seriously

Agreed! Most people just tell you to "pull yourself together", the last thing you need to hear.

Yep, no physical scars for anyone to see but inside you're heart is in pieces.

I was on fluoxetine... prozac for anyone who doesn't know.... but found they were just numbing my head. I came off them without telling the doctor, I know you're not meant to do that but I honestly feel better for it.

While taking them I used the fluoxetine forum on patient UK and found it great to talk to other people who were going through the same thing. We all had different reasons for taking them but it was still scary for us, not knowing what to expect from them.

Luckily I dont, but I can imagine how it feels. Nice to see some seriousness on here

I was on them and to be honest I stopped taking them coz they made me feel worse. I agree that it's great to speak to other people who suffer this horrible illness and try to understand how to cope with it.

Well perhaps "worse" is the wrong word to use. I think your explanation is probably better ie. no effect. My sister and father are on them and they reckon that the tablets are marvellous. Maybe they're just stronger than me.

it is extremely hard to treat an illness which is usually some kind of imbalance, sadly it is also mis diagnosed to people who arent depressed, i know a few people that have been offered anti-d's because they are low or sad, that isnt depression but dishing out tabs is easier than trying to deal with the real problems

Absolutely! It's a doctors quick release to see the next patient. My nephew also suffers depression (sad family ain't we?) and the doctor actually told his parents that the local health authority does not now have the money or finances to fund treating mental health problems. Can you believe that?

when I was on fluoxetine I totally felt like a robot. Blanked my kids, my partner, everyone. But I could see that I was acting that way as well. Very strange indeed

Do you mind PMing me too, my mum is a volunteer and some of the callers need to get a life, but the odd few that actually do need help she finds she can offer a lot of support to.

Amazing that so many people are affected in just the same way. I really thought I was one of a select few.

My sister too. I miss her and likewise only have her grave to visit

in the last few months two youngsters have killed themselves here, one threw themselves off a railway bridge and the other off a bridge into the seven, both had mental health problems and spent many years under the mental health team, i sincerely hope they are now both at peace

I know, i am gutted for my friend, i feel he was let down by various people.

I tried to help him and did all i could, i was devastated when they told me, he was dead.

I think about him often and tear's come into my eyes.

I took fluoxetine for 6 month's they seemed to work.

I didn't want to take them any longer than that, i just usually try to meet up with my friends, who i have known for many year's they understand me.

We have a good old, open your heart session and a bottle of wine on a friday night

I'm really glad that you're at least coping with it, even if it is only for a short time. All the best to you. x

It is an absolute travesty that people like your sister, feel like they have no one to turn to in their hour of need.

Try to think positive and think of the good things and the good memories (I'm sounding like a bloody counsellor now!).

It's 20 years since I cut my friend down from a tree, but it still stays with me daily. (sounding more like a patient again now!) .

Well I think we all try to cope with these things in our own way, however, we all end up seemingly expressing our loss in the same way. Just for them try to think of those tears as tears of joy of the good moments you had together. Its not wrong to cry

We have been through a lot together, she has lost both of her parents in the few year's.

It is terrible for you being in that situation.

When i am ever near trees, in the back of my mind, i am thinking i might find someone.

It scares me.

Too late for any help sadly. Imagine how their parents/friends must be feeling. The sad thing is that their child's actions are now probably starting the ones left behind to get depressed. It's a vicious circle.

She'll love you for the same reasons. Get some sleep and make sure you give your gran a big hug when you see her. More for your own wellbeing as well as hers
