Son booked 4 of us to go to Derry next week BUT he cannot get any deals on hotels in Derry (one night only Mon to Tues). Don't want anything luxurious but a pool might be nice but not essential.

Have looked around for deals, none. All the hotel finder sites seem to be more expensive than the hotels own tarriff. 3 adults and 1 child.

Could not seem to find any of the usual england hotel chains, so cannot use vouchers from HUKD

Any suggestions please

Thank you leefal, all very nice...no deals coming up though, cheapest I can get is £69 pperson per night - still too much, might need to go for B&B instead

I wouldn't recommend you stay in the city of derry, if you are hiring a car head to the countryside. Donegal is beautiful and has plenty of good B&Bs.

also please be very careful if you do go to the city, it is very interesting place from the history and is worth seeing, but it has a lot of problems if you are going to hang around at night around the city centre.
good luck

oh and there is a beautiful hotel near limavady (probably as close to the airport as derry) its the radisson http://www.radissonroepark.com/
might be a bit over your budget but it would save you from Derry while still being close enough to go in for a day - its about 20 mins from Derry.

Just so you know, Derry and the rest of Northern Ireland have some of the lowest crime rates in the world. Yes there can be hassle in the City Centre at night, but just treat it as any other UK or Irish city and you will be fine. The locals are well known for their hospitality.

There's a Travelodge in the city centre;

Have been to Donegal previously and the Antrim coast - superb holiday and fantastic scenery. Only briefly went through Derry, so want to go back. No intention of hanging around at night, except to any good restraunts. Suppose it's like many city centres at night you need to know the areas to avoid.

Derry seemed just like Chester without all the posh shops. Appreciate your concern. Son is fascintated by Irish history, hard to believe it is all still so real to our generation of 40+

Have never met so many friendly folk as in NIreland. Complete strangers will strike up genuine onversations with you. All my kids look forward to going back.

Emma does not seem to be logged on tonight.

Laterooms.com were actually more expensive than hotels own web price - by £25 on average.. Seems to be many hotel sites that scoop the hotel details and add their mark up.

Many thanks guys. Hotel sorted, got it for £35 cheaper than the hotel tariff and a bit cheaper than all the hotel sites. Just asked the hotel to match it and they did.

Looked at the ulsterbus site, seems the buses from the airport are only every few hours. None when we arrive at 2pm. are there any other bus operators or trains from the airport??

Anyone any idea how much in a taxi from the airport to Derry city please
