any help please

i borrowed a windows vista disc off my mate and installed it on my laptop (dell inspiron 1300) and its worked fine for i think about a month, maybe longer.

a windows activation box has been popping up a lot, and ive just kept clicking X.

however now when i log onto my user, it comes up with a big black background and 'this copy of windows is not genuine' in the bottom right corner. and in the middle is the windows activation box, but i cant do anything else. Theres no taskbar

thers 'the automated phone system'

'click here to go to the microsoft website or something (which is how im on the internet now)

or enter the product key again

ive entered my product key several times

and im particularly annoyed as i was meant to be selling this today (with vista)

ive got the original dell xp and driver disc, but i cant do anything with them

so iam really really stuck

any ideas ?

thanks

It's done this as you've not got a copy of Vista. It will have been usable for 30 days. You'll have to either reinstall XP or by finding a crack for Vista (they are out there!)

Of course it's Illegal  :whistling:

When you boot up the pc, hit f11 (I think) and it will give you boot options. It is shown on the first dell screen in the top right hand corner! Select it to boot from cd/dvdrom drive and restart it with the xp disk in the drive.

Yep, pretty much spot on - I think it will be F12 but as you say the laptop itself should tell you at the top right just as it's powered on.

sounds like you work in the same place as me :) excet its me who tells them to turn it and on again :)

works for atleast 99% of the jobs, if that doesnt work its normaly something wrong with the hardware between the seat and the keyboard !

Or the nut behind the keyboard may have a screw loose!!
