  To be honest I'd want to choose my own engagement ring with my future husband, I'll be wearing it for the rest of my life and will want something perfect, and not a compromise with something he thought was perfect but was only 75% there, or not quite the right size.
  
  Make the proposal extra special and get a nice looking fake ring with the promise of a shopping trip - maybe you could make a dirty weekend out of it away somewhere - and choose something together.

  Whatever you decide she will love - the size of the diamond is not what is important, it is the thought and meaning behind it. Quite frankly if she turns round and complains that the diamond isn't bling enough etc she probably isn't the one.
