Just got back from the Gadget Show.

A long day but good fun.

My son loved it.

Just wondered if anyone else had been.

This thread was posted first though, so yours could be spam I guess Archer1204 as they are about the same thing.....

Anyway, I didn't go, but would have liked to, did you enjoy it much? Or was it more entertaining for your son than yourself?

Spent most of the time in the Game Zone. Some really good stuff.

Wasn't that impressed with the 3 DS but the other 3D games were really cool.

FS ive just lost my comment i made in the other thread now

EDIT: Mods gave me my post back :D Mostly for the benefit of Archer9218

i liked the look of the samsung UE46D8000 looked about the best TV set there too me, not only for it having the nicest aesthetics but it also had a great picture (maybe not the best... but it just looked the business), i like the little LG OLED TV's (cause OLED is the future and there soo cool and thin), i liked the robot wars section a lot (was by far and away the most entertainment), i liked the UBER nerds fighting it out on mortal combat competition (was entertaining and they were proper nerds)... i dislike the use of 3D in everything, starting to think it really lacks imagination on all the manufacturers fronts!

was my first time at the event so ive mixed views, could be ignorance but i wasnt perhaps expecting it to quite be the vast supermarket of sales that it was... it was more like being in the worlds biggest curry's (including all the salesman) than at convention or such like.. I found it a weird hybrid of things that didnt quite know what it was and i didnt find it wholly fullfilling

im saddened to say i learned nothing from the whole event which i would have liked to! and thought i might.... i think the stalls need to be oriented a lot more around demo'ing technology how it works and why its good, than jsut putting it there letting you play with it a bit and having sum1 to try sell you it, to top it off its just bad for selling and i should know as ive been working at a sony centre for the past year doing that job

wish it had been a bit more educational.. but then i suppose it was the venue of a show about current tech..i cant wait for 3D to die the death it deserves though

what were your highlights?

A very long comment it was too. I personally didn't spam it, but saw this thread was made a while before so mentioned it for the other OP so he knew his may get spammed.

Once again moving on..... I really want to go to CES next year in Vegas, the gadget show looked good, but was there really that much 'new' stuff there or future items~?

apple wouldnt get involved with the rest of the competition like that they like to distinguish themselves

there was nothing of the future gadgets, i learned next to nothing from the event, it very much should not be thought of as like an exposition or confrence, it was like the worlds largest currys with everyone demoing and trying to sell 3D gadgets

EDIT: thats me being very blunt btw, but im just bitter that my more lengthy reply has now dissapeared..

I don't think I would have enjoyed it then. For me to like It I would have to be relaxed, if there are lots of currys style workers there trying to sell me certain bits of tech then It would put me right off. It is fine if they stand to the side and you can go and ask questions, but if they come up to you and start giving a speech it puts me right off!!

imo in an ideal world, it should have been much more based around the different manufacturers showing off there latest gadgetry (obviously telling you how good it is) but also how it works and why there doing it... there was none of that really, the biggest stall in the place was run by currys and pc world which says it all really..

kids would love the event as they would play games all day and be able to get there parents to buy them a little gadget or two..

btu as an adult i wish it had been more educational and less comercial..

if you tell people about it and let people know how it works and why they will be more likely to buy it, if you try just sell it to me im just gonna walk away

i tried on these massive glasses that allowed you to see in 3D and if you placed a patterned card in your line of sight a holographic robot would appear on the card.. it was the least useful bit of technology i have ever seen and there was soo much tech in the glasses and they were so heavy they just fell off your face, the guy at the stall practically told me off because i wasnt using the card correctly.. i was like the glasses wont even stay on my face lol

It wasn't so much hard sell but like joepro said 3D demos galore

id say at least 50% selling going down there.. far too much 3D demo'ing going on aswell! its jsut an utterly carp technology... im lookig at my TV now and the picture is 3D i can judge the depth of everything, there is light and shade all the perspectives make sense! on my 3 year old LCD the picture is 3D!!

wth is this 3D technology?? it makes your picture blurry for anyone else watching, it creates cardboard cut out effects, it creates ghosting outlines around lots of images where the glasses cant line them up, its awful! it only exists to sell TV's people wont even use it!

the emphasis should just be on creating the best featured best picture quality TV's, not this '3D' nonsense, waste your money everyone for technology that will just sit in the draw

HD is a real technology though, on all these big screen TV's the evidence is as clear as day, maybe go bigger or higher resolution??? i dunno not my job to design, nicest TV i saw was the samsung UE46D8000 that were everywhere, really nice looking and superb picture (maybe not the best i dont know or care really, the TV looked the nicest)

What are you talking about?
3D is class if its set up right, I've got it on my projecotr, and the 3D depths and pop-out is amazing. Doesn't go blury, no ghosting ect..

I went yesterday, the show was good but the day was spoilt by my 6yr old son who got 'bored, hungry, tired, thirsty & needed to pee/poo/throw-up' every 5 mins.

look closer, im not lie'ing i worked in the sony centre selling the damn things

yes you can get depths to things, yes things stand out (and i was on about the picture being blurry when your not wearing glasses for others btw) but even when wearing the glasses you will notice pictures dont fully line up, particularly around the periphery, and ghosting does iexist as i have had multiple customers point it out and can see it myself,

also heres another big fault with 3D, the glasses dont work unless they are horizontal! so dont even think of slouching in front of ur brand new TV!

on your projector btw do u use active shutter or polarised?

Projectors active shutter , Glasses work no matter which way you tilt your head and everything does line up perfectly, Maybe sony ain't that good at making 3D TV's but my projector is perfect, never seen any ghosting or anything.. I can walk right up to my 90 odd inch screen and the picture still lines up perfectly.

put your projector on, put your glasses on and tilt your head from side to side, you will see 3D go in and out.. the active shutter glasses work vertical or horizontal shutters, you tilt your head they cannot line up the image,

im not going to pretend to be the Gospel on this, as i dont engineer them or study it or anything but it is certainly not limited to just sony as i have tried it on a range of other random sets even at the gadget show today..

its Tech Fail imo and even as an avid gamer i wouldnt go near it yet.. i dont even want time to be wasted on it.. i fear i may just be getting horribly bitter and critical in my old age but i cant help but see it as a riddiculous waste of resources!
