Did anyone see the couple who won £100,000 on a scratchcard?

What are your thoughts on this. Basicley they blew it all and are trying to claim housing benefits again. However they have mysteriously lost account for £47000 of the winnings. It makes me sooo mad as they are guilty as sin and yet they still "try it on".

Story:
John and Louise Nickels who won £100,000 on a scratchcard in 2006 are asking for housing benefits to help pay their council tax.

When the couple from London won the money they owed £11,000 in arrears in council tax and rent, which they paid. Their benefits were stopped but they still received incapacity benefit of £90 a week - their rent is £80 a week so they say they haven't enough to live on.
John has a frozen shoulder and plans to soon return to work while Louise is waiting on an hip operation.

In February they ran out of money after spending it on a £22,000 caravan which is now worth £6,500. It is currently up for sale as the council expect them to sell it. They also went on holiday a couple of times and bought a second-hand Ford Mondeo second hand for £16,000.

They claim they have no money left and need extra benefits to survive.

Yes if you have over a certain amount of money in the bank, so all they need to do is remove it from the bank and then they free to con the system! Its not right!!

Wish it was as simple as that,. They also want to know WHERE the money has gone before they even consider paying out.

Thats probably why they decided to blow all the money. They said it was because they were earning very little intrest and so there was no point in having it in savings in the bank:x

Well if you remove the money for purposes of claiming benifits then it is classed as fraud as you are saying that you dont have enough money to live off, when infact you do, So you are then rewarded with a stay at Her Majestys pleasure.

I no but there are ways of getting aroung it! Its not right for the tax payers!! I am not sure exacly how it works but I no its wrong!! people still get away with things like that and its people like myself that have to pay for them!! Its like the couples that say they "are not together" thats another thing that makes me so mad!! They then get extra benefits for lying! I no its a risk they take but some people do not care about that!

Another good point that arose was the fact they are spending tax payers money (MINE AND YOUR MONEY) To buy the scratchcards.

NO it's there money to spend as they wish.
Another point is, once we have paid the tax, it is not our money anymore :)

True, but when people claim benefits that they dont really deserve its wrong and the reason why we have to pay so much tax! Im not saying that people should not have benefits, me and my partner claim benefits but we both also work for our money.

Don't blame the people, blame the system that allows them to find these loopholes.

I see what you mean but 2 wrongs do not make a right! I think the govermant need to sort there act out, instead they just love to through Britains money down the drain on things like this and also things like the war in iraq that has nothing to do with them! Problem is all the partys are the same and will never change for the better!:whistling:

they are sorting their act out, they are encouraging two parents into work, paying for someone else to look after their children and in ten years will say well we chuffed up that one didnt we

they're both back on gmtv this morning keep an eye out for them at 08:10, they might be asking for donations ? let's all have a whip around for them... I'll start off, i'll donate a live hand grenade

Its a big debate this and without an easy answer I guess. But did this family really expect to get sympathy from the public? Surely they must have realised how people would react! I'd have layed low for a bit! (Not that I would do that in first place, of course!)
#25
It's their attitude about the whole thing that annoys me,

"who keeps receipts?"

ummm... for £100,000 worth of stuff... everyone?

and the fact that they spent all that money in a year on the basis of "when its gone we'll just go back on benifits and one day I might get a job"

and also "we did think about saving the money, we put £74000 in the bank but it didnt generate enough interest so we spent it" :w00t:

I can't believe he is using a frozen shoulder as an excuse not to work for 2 Years, My mom has worked with one for 6, and surely the wife can work in a call centre something as she is saying she has a "bad hip".

That pic is ace

Probably brought it from a friend or family , fat slob probably has a frozen shoulder due to all the excess weight.

I didnt think they could claim this sort of minor injury for to claim sick , there must be other factors?

I dont mind paying tax its part of life , be different if people were getting £300 a week , but i believe people get under £80

No point in taring everyone the same as some people do have real illnesses ....

But these 2 they are just a pair of wasters , £100,000 grand and they claim they blew it all , that should of last them a lifetime considering they only use to £90 a week!!!

Yeh give us £100,000 and we be set up for life.I couldn't spend that much money and have nothing to show for it. Like say I had a house and won that much,I probably wouldn't spend that much on myself as I can't of find it hard to spend money on myself for starters and don't really want for much.
#33
Apparenty they bought a caravan that cost £22,000 a year ago. It is only worth £4000 now, so they say! That is a huge loss. They cannot account for £42,000 so the benefit system will not pay them. To start with they were £4000 or so in arrears with the rent. I struggle by on a daily basis then you see scrounging people like this on the morning news and it makes me sick!!
