Did you buy/get a second hand engagement ring?

Perhaps it was cos I was on the Goldsmiths website but I got thinking about engagement rings.

On Dickinson's real deal today, a vintage 6 carat diamond ring was valued at £20-£25k. Now Goldsmiths charge 8k for a 1carat ring. I'd prefer a second hand bigger diamond!!

Some people are superstitious, stating that old rings hold bad memories....especially if it's an engagement ring for sale!!

Whats your opinion, do you mind second hand jewellery? and especially something as 'important' as an engagement ring?

Also, my dad gave my mum the money to go buy her own when they got engaged, would you prefer that to having to pick one/ having to accept what your fella's chosen? lol.

My wife and I bought a second hand engagement ring (an amethyst). Its what she wanted - I was looking at the new ones. She felt the history was good (whatever happened) as every ring and marriage is what you make it (:?).

To be honest I think she was right. We also had plain 9ct gold bands to represent the strongest bond we could make together:oops:

good luck and happy days !

awww thats sweet.

Heck I'm not getting engaged yet, but was thinking about the choices different people make. Especially after that beast of a diamond on Dickinson's Real Deal!!

My first engagement ring was an antique diamond on a new setting, had it 12 years before the stone bloody fell out.......gutted.
OH bought me a new 18ct white gold solitaire with matching wedding ring as a replacement....beautiful!

My OH has given me his late mothers. Silver and diamond. Never met her, but going by what I hear from others - if I can be half the woman she was, I'll be happy.

I imported one from India (1Kt princess cut diamond & platinum ring).

Cost me £1500, but got it valued over here for insurance purposes & it was insured for £4800

When me and the wife got engaged, the ring had a diamond that was almost a grain of dust, it was that small. I was on YTS and had no money, but wanted it to be diamond whatever the size.

Later when I became an IT manager, the first thing I bought was a half carrot replacement, which was really nice, but the sentimental value of the original ring meant my wife put the new ring in the draw and still wears the diamond dust ring!!

I need proposal ideas!

My girlfriend said she'd marry me if the ring was big

I wouldn't marry her! Size shouldn't matter.

Aww!

Hubby chose my engagement ring himself and it's gorgeous :)
