Hi all - looking at laptops and for the same money on the same spec laptops there is one difference, the processor.

Could anyone tell me what the difference is between the below;

AMD Turion X2 Dual Core RM-72 2.1Ghz
AMD Athlon x2 Duel Core QL-60 1.9GZ

Is one really better than the other as the price for the laptops are the same?

If you would have had the forethought to google, The primary difference between the Athlon series of processors, and the Turion series of processors (which are based on the Athlons) is that the Turion processors are designed for mobile platforms (like laptops) and consume less energy dissipating between 25 Watts (the MT series) and 35 Watts (the ML) and between 31 and 35 Watts for the TL series.

The Athlon processors dissipate on average around twice that much power, although some of the specific Athlon Mobile processors have power dissipation levels similar to the Turions.

Both processors come with L2 Caches of 512KB at the lower end up to 1024KB at the higher end, and processing speeds are comparable between the series.

Some people really are dare i say 'condesending' arnt they. i was asking for advice - not from the internet search options like google that throw up all sorts of links but from actual people on a forum that seems to have knowledge of these sorts of things. Correct me if im wrong but isnt that what a forum is - whats the point of a forum if you cant ask question?! In theory you can google for every single question to find an answer - have you never asked a friend for advice, a parent, teacher, work colleague? What a pathetic little child you are. And yes I have used google and wanted extra infomation and advice from others and to then expand the conversation to other areas of laptops and the subtle differences. So how about dont be such an idiot next time, use YOUR 'initiative' as you put it and think outside the box - not all people ask a question without researching some things first and some people do require extra advice - its called life. So next time dont jump the gun. Have a good one!

Well generally if I want advice, I search for it on the internet, if I am still unsure then I ask on a relevent forum..although this has a misc section, really its mainly to do with deals, hot ones, that are in the UK.....perhaps some sort of computer forum might have been a good idea? Or maybe check reviews on both laptops, find out which has best power consumption and battery life...

I was being helpful by providing you that link...

If you want to know subtle differences, then may I suggest you check out any review comparisons or a forum dedicated to laptops/reviews.

So really, who is the one being the idiot did you say? You called me one, and a pathetic child to boot.....all I said was if you had the forethought to google, and then provided you an explanation and I get called an idiot and a child.....sensitive some? You did say you had used google and wanted extra advice, well you didnt already mention that you knew the difference and wanted elaboration on the subtle nuances, so really your google search didn't tell you much, hence making my advice that bit more helpful.

Why do I bother wasting my time....

You never specified WHICH laptops other than the processors.....
You never specified that you already knew that one CPU was more power hungry than the other (do i mention about the google search you must have failed to make)....

There is more than the CPU to consider, size of laptop, your needs, battery life, storage as in HD size, portability etc etc....all of which can also be googled.

To be quite frank though, you didnt initially list a lot to go on for others to provide you with any help, I am sorry that google searches list lots of links for you, try clicking on them in future, my search for you provided you with answers....

I wouldnt personally say I am condescending, but have a sardonic sense of humour, forgive my cynicism. Perhaps next time try going into Comet or Currys and asking a sales person, they would love to misinform you....

Where is your reputation btw? This "idiot" has had plenty from advice and deals on here, what have you done to help others?
