I bought three of these boxes for the bedrooms and a month ago one of them exploded with a flash and bang during the night frightening my daughter half to death.

I did a bit of www research and lo' and behold there were reports of other people having the same dangerous incidents. I contacted Amazon and they said they would look into it and contact the manufacturers, who of course duly denied any issue insisting I was the only one who had suffered the fate...not so, if they had checked the web they would have seen there are plenty others. They are coming to take the box away but I have stripped it down and photographed the damage. According to a colleague it was apparently an exploding capacitor which in turn blew a chip in half.

If anyone has had the same problem, can you please post on this thread.

Thanks,
Chris

exploding capacitors is nothing new, nor is it dangerous, other than scaring you to death :)
it was more likely the chip that shorted and the capacitor went out in sympathy.

Much sympathy, back in the day of the tv set that had big bulb things in it, my Grandad was fortunate to own a set in the sixties, I was watching something one afternoon and there was a big bang and the thing set on fire.

Having been told by my Grandma to watch the tele and do not move, I did just that and did not alert the grownups, they soon ran in once the curtains were on fire and guess who got into trouble... Eh Moi.!

No justice.

I think the technical term you were looking for is "valves" :)
