Read somewhere it might have something to do with itunes? Any techies know how to fix this?

Thanks

do you have a windows/restore disk?if so try and boot off that to see if the drive has failed or not if it does boot ok then it sure is a windows prob and you can take it from there
#3
if your pc boots from abootable disk from post. I would say that the dvd drv is ok
have you loaded Itunes on your system, if so then that sometimes corrupts the ide controller. go into devicemanager and see if they is a yellow exclamation mark on the drv, if so then you need to remove the upper & lower filters. ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 ) that should curer your problem

thanks Yogi but it did not work. The disk drive is not listed on device manager, so I presume I need to re install, but cannot locate a disk drive on the list! No make matters worse I have not got the original disks!

Have you checked the cables? Also does the drive show up under BIOS?

The problem is caused by incorrect filters that specify the drive letters. Open up regedit, and go to this key:

SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Delete the entries for LowerFilters and UpperFilters and restart.

ok what unit is laptop or desktop
have you got a windows disk if so put that in the drv and then turn unit off,then turn unit on again and see if it boots from that disk, if not then restart machine and press f1,f2 or delete to enter the bios and then goto boot options and make sure the cdrom drv is the first boot device, then save the changes and unit will restart, this time it should boot from the disk, see what happens

go to the SI Forums all the answers are there.

you dont have to be a member to read the general questions, and there are a lot regarding this

ok on these models sometimes the dvd drv comes loose

remove the battery, keep the unit upside down, look where the dvd drv is fitted there should be one screw holding it in, if remove the screw and the slide the dvd drv out abit, then push back in hold in place and put screw back, go into bios and see if the dvd drv is there now,

It worked! Not only have you saved me a few quid on a new drive, but more importantly I can play FM 2009 tonight!

Can't thank you enough! Repped!:thumbsup:
